Wired 5 grand to my account in BanColombia yesterday..........

And it is already in my account today.

I didn't even have to go to the bank to accept the wire. However the exchange rate leaves alot to be desired. The official rate was 2302 and I got 2252 cop per dollar.

So BanColombia is taking 50 pesos on the dollar.

According to the bank teller you can wire $5000 us to your bank account each month without any prior athorization. At those exchange rates I hope I can get by without wiring any more than that.

It's a pain in the ass but my pulling out and depositing about 3 million cop a day from my ATM cards.

Normally if I call before 2, it's in my account first thing in the morning.

50 pesos on the dollar is only about 2%, no?

Huskie, do you have:

· Banco: BANCOLOMBIA
· Ciudad: Medellín
· País: Colombia
· Banco pagador: BANCOLOMBIA.
· SWIFT BANCOLOMBIA: COLOCOBM.

Para Giros en dólares
Banco intermediario:
CITYBANK de Nueva York
Código ABA: 021000089
SWIFT: CITIUS33
Acreditar a la cuenta número:
36006658 de BANCOLOMBIA (Replaced with your account number at Bancolombia?) You probably should also add receiver's name.

It seems that Citi is the U.S. correspondent bank.

I found that on a misc website, so can't guarantee it:

But is that the only charge? Mine are dollar dominated, but they just raised the flat fee to receive from $7, to 15. So, I pay 1.5% for $1000, and the same to send it from the US..

I should send more, less frequently. jaja

beware! I did this exact same thing for several months running, same amount, and after about 6 months they embargoed my latest wire. i had to figure out on my own that i had to visit the manager of the branch where my account was opened and present documents demonstrating that my source of income is legal.

after this, i had to keep coming back to see her each time i sent money in order for her to manually release it.

this was in medellin.

I have a pretty low chicken-shit tolerance. It's not for me, Panamá is bad enough.

They also hassle small depositors, and the big time druggers and money launderers go on their merry way, aided by co-conspirators in the banks.

"Sloop, my account is in Medellin, I need to deposit some money, send USD and I suppose I get COPs'. Do I have to use the Citibank bank route?
Thanks for the info
Cheers".

I don't think it matters which branch you use, as long is one in Colombia (we have Bancolombia in Panamá, and I think there is one in U.S. [Florida]).

Somebody else just posted, and also using Citi as the correspondent. But my first bank here used Citi, and Wachovia, so BC might have more than one to choose from (your local bank should be able to tell you). But you execute the wire at the bank where your dollars are. They will route it trhough the correspondent, which will send it to Colombia. It is an overnight operation.

Yes, you send $s, but look at that more recent post, which explains some 30 day period to get get an "agreeable" rate of transfer from $ to COP.

Huskie, we decided months ago that "We ain't gonna play!". I DON'T need it.

Are you in the U.S. now? You might be better off if you're in Europe. I think that if you go your bank there, you might find the sending is the easier part. But, if you are away from the bank where your dollars are, you might have to mail, or fax a form.

But if you are in a different country, the correspondent bank will also be different (one in that country, most likely).

If you want to wire money from your U.S.(?) bank, you will have to contact them (probably by phone). I was able to arrange a one-tine wire for $16K to buy my Jeep in Puerto Rico by calling Fidelity, and sending a fax. They wired the money to the account of the seller at Banco Popular, in less than an hour.

If you use Skype, I have the same user name there.

"Yes, I am in Eastern Europe right now, but I do not have personal bank account here. The banking system is a lot better than in Colombia though

From what I have read, and experienced, they must have better banking in Haiti and Jamaica than in Colombia, or Panamá. It was more gringo style in Puerto Rico, but still squirrely (and they are part of the U.S. Federal Reserve System and accounts are insured by the FDIC to $250,000).

So they took 50 pesos out of 2300 to the peso and you got 2250? Banks have expenses and fees too and that teller you talked to does not do it for free. Maybe you should thank God or somebody that you have $5,000 to wire to Colombia? Maybe you need a day or to in Siloe Barrio to bring you back to reality?

Nothing personal friend but what is the point of your post? The rate a few months ago was 1500 so what is your beef? "Money for nothing and your chicks for free"?
