Winning Big Mayor's Race Boost's Leftists!

Miami Herald-Bogota
Colombia,s leftest opposition won a landslide victory in Bogota mayor's race, but canidates loyal to President Alvaro Uribe cruised to victory in the heartland, where his hard line security policies are widely popular.
The leftests won only one other governor's race in elections Sunday across the Andean nation's 32 electoral districts. Even in the capital, a pro- Uribe coalition will dominate the city counsil.
Even so, Samuel Moreno's victory is a major boost for the Alternative Democratic Pole Party because Bogota's mayor--who has legal status equal to that of a governor is concidered the most important public office after the President and it came in the face of a clear Uribe tilt against Moreno.
However, the oppositions influence on politic's outside the cosmopolitan capital of 8 million remains limited ahead of the 2010 presidential race.

One step forward and two steps back. Don't just look and listen to the new mayor look and listen the the President of the POLO party. Now there is a real asshole (after me of course). He is the reason why FARC loves the POLO party...nice legacy huh!

It is not life that matters, but the journey.

Care to elaborate a bit?

Sure Tertius, glad to:

POLO is a party that groups like FARC give support to because of POLOs socialism philosophy. Because of this, people like Moreno are no better than FARC itself. Moreno was elected because he promised all the school teachers a big salary increase. So where is he going to get the money? Like most socialists he can only talk so in the end he will have to increase taxes, etc., if he can get the support of the city council which he won't. Carlos Gaviria, the president of the POLO party is the real power and is an outright moron. Gaviria believes that Colombia must negotiate with the wonderful and patriotic FARC guerrillas which President Uribe refuses to do.

Why no negotiation with FARC? First they are not rebels and they are not guerrillas. They gave up politics long ago. They only want the total destruction of the Colombian political system with no viable replacement. They no longer know what they want or how to achieve it. There is nothing romantic or worthwhile of FARC. FARC is simply a terrorist organization.

FARC murders innocent people and politicians who trying to help their community; they produce and sell cocaine, heroin, and marijuana to fund their terrorists efforts. They do not help any community, build schools or provide medical care. They no longer have political ideology. They only want to survive because they have no where else to go. So they kill, kidnap, rob, rape, and intimidate. They take what is not theirs and they could care less about Colombia or Colombians. In some parts of Colombia they are even driving out and killing off the local indigenous peoples. And this is an organization that POLO with Moreno and the other true anarchist, Gustavo Petro want Colombia to negotiate with? Negotiate for what?

If you lie down with garbage you smell like garbage. They are no better than Al Qaeda.

Hope this helps!

This must be the most stupid (and personally offensive) post I've read in PBH. Okay, at least the 5th most. I was considering replying, but then I thought this is meant simply to provoke.

Yes, Moreno is just as bad as Al Qaeda. Watch out.

Well my friend it is not to provoke but to present an educated opinion. If you have something contrary to add I would like to hear it. I am not perfect, but I do make sure I know whay I am talking about unlike some who just make unqualified remarks. What say you?

Sr Tertius says on Nov 1, 2007, 18:29:

Rikito: Any opinion that pretends to be educated would take precedents into account. We've had this discussion here in PBH to boredom, that's why I am reluctant to continue it. If you choose to believe the BS that you repeat here despite all the arguments against it, that's fine, there is nothing I can say that will persuade you otherwise. But at least don't try to pass it as "educated" opinion.

"POLO is a party that groups like FARC give support to" No. FARC has copied a couple of articles in their website and shown sympathy towards the idea of a PDA-run government. That's it. That's not support of any substantial kind, certainly not comparable to the material support that the paracos have provided to members of the Uribista coallition.

"Because of this, people like Moreno are no better than FARC itself." Not only the premise is false, but the conclusion doesn't follow AT ALL. If you think that democratic, peaceful, legal opposition to the government is comparable to a a criminal organization like FARC, you need to brush up your notion of democracy.

"Moreno was elected because he promised all the school teachers a big salary increase." Evidence please.

"So where is he going to get the money? Like most socialists he can only talk so in the end he will have to increase taxes" That's generic BS, give me specific cases, and besides, it was PeƱalosa the one who talked more about increasing taxes, which is the responsible thing to do.

"Gaviria believes that Colombia must negotiate with the wonderful and patriotic FARC guerrillas which President Uribe refuses to do." And that's the reason why he is an "outright moron"? First off, nobody has characterized FARC as "wonderful and patriotic," only you. And second, most people know that the conflict with FARC is going to end in a negotiation table, even Uribe knows that. What most people differ is not on the aims but on the method: Uribe thinks that he can debilitate the guerrillas militarily before bringing them to the table, and the opposition believes that one thing shouldn't exclude the other.

I read further down "negotiate what?" How about, for starters, the same thing that Uribe negotiated with the paracos, or better, what he is currently negotiating with the ELN, or what the Colombian government negotiated with a half a dozen guerrilla groups in the late eighties, or what dozens of governments have negotiated with local insurgencies. I guess you wouldn't be able to tell a peace process from your own ass if it ran over you.

About FARC you say "First they are not rebels and they are not guerrillas. They gave up politics long ago." Then why the fuck do you listen to what they say? How convenient no? If they say something like "we want peace" then they are lying, but if they say "we like the PDA" that's a sign of Franciscan honesty, and not only that, the PDA is at fault for the honest-to-God opinion of FARC. You gotta be shittin with me.

What deeply offends me, though, is none of the above, but the stupid, ass retarded criminalization of political opposition. We've been 50 fucking years dealing with this problem, and there's always a bunch of assholes that once in a while gang together because they decide that peaceful legal political opposition is "no better than Al Qaeda," and go out doing what would be the natural thing to do if they were a terrorist organization: physically wipe them out. I suppose you think that's a joke, but we had a case of political genocide in the late 80s, early 90s, pretty much inspired by that moronic view of the world. I don't find that shit funny at all.
