Tattoo - I'm not familiar with the post you mention but maybe one of the other moderators will remember it. I'm only guessing but maybe there was a "pile on" with material that breaks the rules. In that case the best course of action is to block from further comments or delete the content that breaks the rules.

Basically, the only ones that I delete and do not notify are the obvious trolls. Nobody goes crazy with nothing here. There's always a reason for everything. I don't contact the poster for every edited comment (the reasons for editing are self-explanatory, ad hom attack, sexist, racist or obscene content etc) or every comment that I decide to rdelete for the same reasons, but when I delete an account (that happens extremely seldom, except for double handles and a couple of trolls that have been a pain in the butt recently) I would ALWAYS warn the poster first.

Perhaps our newbie with a complaint (taboo) has been around a bit longer?
