Why not Venezuela ?

Greetings!

It seems that most of you wind up in Colombia to find a soul mate and / or teach English. Why not go instead to Venezuela where you can get twice as much for lecturing? And people have the same ethnic background as Colombians, so you could also ferret out a match.

Take it easy!

Because of the colombian people Interesting question Mike. Why not Venezuela? I believe the reason people are so crazy about Colombia has to do with the Colombian people. Colombia is the only country I have been to in south america. I have been there 3 times and I am constantly thinking about going back to live there if I could only make a living down there. Every time I meet travllers in Colombia, which also have been to Ecuador or Venezulea, they give the same response when I ask which country they enjoyed the most. Guess which country? And why? Answer: Colombia and the people.

To paraphrase the footprint Colombia handbook:

"If ever a country has a serious image problem, then it's Colombia. Despite the fact that it's perhaps the most beautiful country in Latin America, with mountains, Caribbean and Pacific beaches, precolumbian ruins and a vast swathe of the Amazon, most people associate it with drugs, guerrilla violence and kidnapping. Yet, ask any self-respecting lover of all things South American what is their favourite country and nine out of ten will immediately answer Colombia. That may just be the aguardiente talking, but there's one thing for sure: this most notorious of places maintains a powerful hold on those who know it."

And more:

"Colombia certainly has more than its fair share of stunning scenery and classic sights, but that's only half the story. Its single greatest attraction is surely its people. Not for nothing is Colombia also known as 'Locombia' - mad country. Its people are so terminally-optimistic, insanely exuberant and hopelessly romantic. it's impossible not to fall in love with them. For in common with all countries blighted by violence and civil war, Colombians are just happy to see anyone visit their country"

So that's the reason!

I´ve visited both countries and liked them both. Venezuela in 1991, my first trip outisde of Europe with some friends and few money. We travelled by bus and slept in very simple hotels and it was a great adventure. To Colombia two years a go on my own to (guess what?) meet a lady. We met in Bogotá and together we visited the coffee region (Pereira) and Cartagena. The two countries have many things in common, but Colombia is somehow special. Much better organized and cities are generally cleaner, but the people are nice in Venezuela and in Colombia (exception Taxi drivers in Caracas). Colombian spanish is much better to understand (for me).

But I have to say that venzuelan women are as beautiful as the colombianas.

ahhh Colombia!! Just returned from Medellin Colombia, and I am no expert of course but some of the comments I am reading about Colombia I would consider to be true in that I have fallen in love with this beautiful country for a lot of those reason described by others... Yes there are problems, but what part of North America with an elaborate population does not have problems. I love the geograhpy, I love the people who have a real zest for life even though in most cases they have very little.
Perhaps I am a bit biased toward Colombia as I have found my life mate there, and I hope to return to her very soon, but I have a friend who married a venezuelan lady and he said it was the best thing he has ever done. So it goes to show there is something special about both countries.. Now if I can return before the snow flies I will be a happy man!!!

Like Bjorn Said... Like Bjorn said...it's because of the Colombian people. Just got back from Venz a few weeks ago...the women of Colombia are prettier (in my opinion of course) and they're much more open and friendlier. I'm heading back to Colombia for a nice long vacation to visit my novia in about 2 weeks.
