Why not The Stones in Colombia?

The Stones do Buenas Aires:

Why are they not doing such an important country as Colombia?

Very few acts like U2 or the Stones do Colombia.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

The Stones did a free concert in Rio the other week. I was thinking the same thing. Why not Colombia? Greenday played in Colombia but they're not as big. Black Eyed Peas played a couple of months ago. Morbid Angel likes to play in Colombia but they can't be too picky. Theres not too many heavy metal fans in the U.S. anymore.

Rubiazo says on Feb 25, 2006, 07:52:

I can tell you why -Colombian promoters haver ruined the reputation for many mid-level acts. They have been famous for overselling shows sometimes by as much as 5 to 1. So now people are afraid to come there and have a repeat of the Who in Cincinnati or Public Enemy at NYU where multiple people get trampled to death.

-Believe it or not, the ASSHOLES at the DAS actually sometimes deny the visa for bands to come.

-On top of all this, the logistics of touring Colombia are terrible. Bands generally need to tour with lots of heavy equipment, usually at least a 5-ton worth. Getting all this gear from city to city in a timely and secure manner is extremely difficult in Colombia due to the mountains, the roads, and the fact that a lot of the areas one would need to pass through are not safe. Often bands in this situation would simply rent what they need when they get there, but outside of the bigger cities this can also be a big problem due to availability!

Rolling Stones was scheduled to stop by Colombia Acording to El Espectador, Colombian newspaper. The newspaper said that during the second week of February, the Rolling Stones would visit South America in a tour that will includes Colombia.

"Los Rolling Stones llegarían a Uruguay
Hasta enero, los Rolling Stones tocarán en ciudades de Estados Unidos y Canadá. La segunda quincena de febrero bajan a América latina, en una gira que incluirá México, Brasil, Colombia, Chile y, si todo sale bien Argentina y Uruguay."

Wrong..... The Rolling Stones are NOT scheduled to visit Colombia. It does not make and difference what the El Espectador Newspaper says. The most reliable source for tour information is a groups web site. Groups update their web site because they have an interest in seeing that it is accurate. It's called money. According to their web site, the only Latin American countries they are going to are: Puerto Rico, Brazil, Argentina, and and Mexcio (Mexico City and Monterrey).

But they will be in Chicago on both January 23 and 25, just weeks before the enter Latin America.....Below is their itinerary.

GringoD After Metallica's third alblum and the death of the original bassist Cliff Burton, the music went down hill. In the 90s they toned the music down and wanted to fit in more with alternative music.

Tinto (Moderator) says on Feb 25, 2006, 10:54:

Alternatively, maybe there is not a sufficient number of senior citizens in Colombia willing to spend $150 USD per ticket. Hehe.

Gomezman5 says on Feb 25, 2006, 12:26:

GringoD I'm not getting into "Why" debate. There is not debate here. Groups post their Tour dates for a reason. If the city is NOT listed on their web site, they are NOT going there. Who cares why they are not going there.

It has nothing to do with travel guides or anything else. With the exception of Bogota, and even there only to a limited extent, Bogota is not know as a bastion for rock music. There is no debate here. Argentina, Spain, and Mexico, are the main stomping grounds for rock in English or Spanish.

Who knows why they are not going to Colombia. But if there is nothing listed on their web site at this late date, you can be certain, they are NOT going to be there. I think even Rubiazo would agree with that. Well, he acutally does agree because he posted after me and I know this guy, if he took issue with my contention, he would have already mentioned as such. God forbid he would ever agree with me.,..,.or you for that matter.

Hey......maybe there is the interest in Colombia, maybe they just don't want to go because they don't think it is safe to do so??
hmmmm :)

I've been noticing the number of tours that include Monterrey, Mexico. Plenty of money floating around there with a large middle and upper class.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

Gomezman5 says on Feb 25, 2006, 13:18:

UC You are quite correct. In fact, most people don't realize that the commercial/industrial capital of Mexico is not it's capital, Mexico City, it's Monterrey. Most people don't realize that. This is true even though Gudalajara is the second largest city in Mexico.

Monpirri says on Feb 25, 2006, 13:42:

To my Mexican friends I do not know who is wrong, but I posted the source from El Espectador, a Colombian newspaper.
The newspapers printed "Los Rolling Stones" would be in " México, Brasil, Colombia, Chile y, si todo sale bien Argentina y Uruguay."
http://www.espectador.com/nota.php?idNota=42307

Your information posted does not mention Rolling Stones concert in Chile, Colombia and Uruguay. Furthermore, other sources and not from Colombia press, supported the Colombian newspaper about Chile and Uruguay.
"It [the group] will be a first for Puerto Rico, followed by Mexico and South America in January, February with dates to be confirmed in Chile, Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina. Rolling Stones previous South American tour was in 1995 and 1997.

As GingroD has pointed out, it is possible that the Rolling Stones concert in Colombia, and in the other South American places have been postponed because sales strategies, last minute cosmetic changes; contract enhancements, revisions and/or disputes, who knows? How large-scale concerts are planned out?
I do know for sure that concerts sometimes do not meet their schedules on time and ticket prices do not stay as advertised.
Maybe the Rolling Stones do not want to go to Colombia so they do not have to run into LOL!!… Andrew Loog Oldham, former manager, producer and brains from the Rolling Stones who lives in Colombia for many years. http://www.highbeam.com/library/doc0.asp?DOCID=1G1:98690549&refid=holomed_1

Tourism for Colombia... And since I do not want to encourage certain people to later on to say that Mick Jagger or any other famous celebrities never visit Colombia because lallalalallal.

"Nuestra ciudad es constantemente engalanada con visitantes ilustres que acuden a alguno de los importantes eventos que ocurren en Cartagena de Indias. Nuestro festival de cine atrae a las más variadas estrellas del celuloide como Danny Glover, Mick Jagger o Jane Chaplin."

Mick Jagger "paraliza" Cartagena de Indias
(For English translation click online Translate this page)

By the way, just because we do not know or only listen to one source of information, many famous persons do visit Colombia at all the times! They just do not want the hysterical media to forecast or to spoil the relaxing vacation in Colombia.
It Makes Sense, Doesn't It?

who wants that senior citizen in Colombia anyway, we had one of the best band playing in Colombia, Guns and Roses. nothing can beat that.

morphus says on Feb 25, 2006, 17:19:

Guns and Roses played in Colombia? I did'nt know that. That might explain why there music is always played in Colombia. Colombians never forget! Its like when President Kennedy went to Colombia. They still remember and have his name all over the place. More bands should go to Colombia.

kat1 (Moderator) says on Feb 25, 2006, 17:30:

Guns and roses played in el Estadio El campin on the November 29th, 1992
GN'R took the stage at 10:30pm. The show started with "Welcome To The Jungle". During "November Rain" there was a cloudburst. Within minutes, the equipment was beneath half-an-inch of water. The band had to take a break to dry and make safe all the electrical equipment. They returned after 15 minutes to finish the set.

Rubiazo says on Feb 25, 2006, 18:39:

umm there is PLENTY of rock music in Bogota. It is probably listened to more than salsa merengue and cumbia combined by now.
There are a lot of minor league heavy rock bands that do tour South America extensively. Sometimes Colombia gets shafted because of the above reasons I mentioned.

BTW Tinto and others, the Stones concert in Rio was absolutely FREE. You don't think 1.2 million people paid didja?

litost says on Feb 25, 2006, 18:43:

I was there, METALLICA at Parque Simon Bolivar in '99.

Other big artists over the last decade include Bon Jovi, Sheryl Crow, Alanis Morissette, Moby, Def Leppard, Offspring, White Stripes.

Tinto (Moderator) says on Feb 25, 2006, 19:15:

Nope .

utopiacowboy says on Feb 25, 2006, 20:35:

Were you a Guns N Roses groupie, Kat? Not that I blame you. I bet you could have showed them a Paradise City.

Lionheart says on Feb 25, 2006, 21:11:

it is about the money as a poster above said, the logistics prohibit a tour.

A friend of mine is a trucker for a company who hauls the top group's stuff aroung the USA, up to 5 18-wheelers per band (Stones, Pink Floyd etc.) If these bands don't get other incentives they won't go there.

Some go anyway, like Kansas and U2 ... tonight Kansas performed in Viña Del Mar in Chile, and U2 tomorrow. They have a one week sponsored music festival there every year. Colombia does nothing.
