Any good places for white water rafting around Bogota up to Bucaramanga? Or anywhere else in Colombia?
If so, is a wetsuit recommended - usually a good idea when rafting in cold river water? I'm wondering because I once went rafting in La Poudre river near Ft. Collins, Colorado and saw someone almost drown when thrown from a raft into the cold river - he quickly became hypothermic and could barely respond to rescue attempts (the rescuers threw ropes at him, but he was getting so chilled he almost gave up). Fortunately, the guy survived, and since I wasn't wearing a wetsuit, I now try to find out if it would be recommended.

It was on the road towards Cali from Medellin about 2.5 hours from Medellin going south.. Larry

Also, I'm more familiar with the areas between Bogota and Bucaramanga - haven't been to Medellin or San Gill. They have different class of rapids to chose from. The shortest trips are about 2 hours for 25,000 COP and some are 5 days. It is a lot of fun.

Chriscan says on Dec 2, 2008, 06:52: My wife had a scary moment her first time rafting. She got stuck in this hole. I was deeper than I have ever been in a river and I've paddled and rowed a few thousand miles in my time. The guide said that it was the only time he'd been knocked out of a raft on that river. I think the raft was overloaded. No problem is so formidable that you can't walk away from it. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Mononoke28 says on Dec 2, 2008, 10:42: We go rafting once a year here in Colorado and had never had anyone die from hypothermia after falling into the water. Once a friend of mine I went with was holding on to his paddle after being pushed and shoved by the river water for almost ½ a mile. He was pretty cold but never let go of the paddle which was the funniest thing I'd ever seen. It's ok if he'd drowned but God for bid if he'd lost his paddle. Diana 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
