White water rafting

Any good places for white water rafting around Bogota up to Bucaramanga? Or anywhere else in Colombia?

If so, is a wetsuit recommended - usually a good idea when rafting in cold river water? I'm wondering because I once went rafting in La Poudre river near Ft. Collins, Colorado and saw someone almost drown when thrown from a raft into the cold river - he quickly became hypothermic and could barely respond to rescue attempts (the rescuers threw ropes at him, but he was getting so chilled he almost gave up). Fortunately, the guy survived, and since I wasn't wearing a wetsuit, I now try to find out if it would be recommended.

I was in La Pintada (Antioquia, Colombia) maybe 4 weeks ago and they had big signs up at the hotel advertising white water rafting on the Cauca River -- the river was rather wide, muddy and moving very fast and I was told it was very dangerous as far as people dying frequently in the river, however they had large banners everywhere advertising the white water rafting. It was on the road towards Cali from Medellin about 2.5 hours from Medellin going south.. Larry

Definitely some good leads - but is the water cold mountain water? And, I was a bit more interested in fun than danger! Also, I'm more familiar with the areas between Bogota and Bucaramanga - haven't been to Medellin or San Gill.

San Gil is about two hours on the way to Bogota leaving Bucaramanga. The water is not so cold that you would need a wet suit. They have different class of rapids to chose from. The shortest trips are about 2 hours for 25,000 COP and some are 5 days. It is a lot of fun.

Nimaima up from La Vega on the road from Bogotá to Medellín about an hour and a half.

Divertido o no? Juzguen ustedes! Regreso a la ciudad origen Bogotá.

We go rafting once a year here in Colorado and had never had anyone die from hypothermia after falling into the water. Once a friend of mine I went with was holding on to his paddle after being pushed and shoved by the river water for almost ½ a mile. He was pretty cold but never let go of the paddle which was the funniest thing I'd ever seen. It's ok if he'd drowned but God for bid if he'd lost his paddle.
