I don't think there is a "must see" in Medellin. You have to like it as a whole or the overall atmospere. Heres the scoop on Medellin:

What happened with Medellin is gringos were terrified to go there just a few years ago. Then a few adverturous gringos started going there and they were amazed that they did'nt get killed. Then they met a few kind Paisas. Their kindness was magnified times a hundred because they did'nt kill them. Then they saw some pretty women. The pretty women were friendly. News got back to gringolandia. Then other gringos started looking for Paisa girls on the internet and flying down. Many gringos got married to Paisa women. Then gringos started feeling like players in Medellin. Then some mongers came to Medellin from Costa Rica and other places to hire prepagos. Gringos started going out to Parque Lleras with their prepago girlfiends and looking foolish. Then gringos lose repect in Medellin.

Depends on what you like to do. Most tourists always go to El Pueblito Paisa, they check out what at the Convention Center, walk around el centro on Avenida El Poblado, La Playa, take the metro, go to the Museo de Antioquia, go to el Jardín Botánico. You can also go to Guatapé, swim in the represa go up the Piedra del Peñol. Go to Envigado and Rionegro.

Or you can do "normal" stuff and just hang out at El Tesoro and Oviedo.

Morph, you're quickly becoming the voice of reason on PBH. And what's up with Kalico? Has he got some kind of vendetta against you? If I was a mod, I'd kick Kalico's ass, HARD.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

The Portal has a google Page Rank of 5, and there are many other very good Home Pages that promote the city.

Good Luck and enjoy Medellin, Colombia

"Medellin has the fame of being the most dangerous city in the world for its size. It’s a city in a valley with all the poor barrios climbing up the slopes in squatted shanty towns. This means that as far as most of the city goes the bad streets and the good streets seem to tangle together so that in any given direction you’re at risk within 300 meters. The days of the early 90’s when the drug lord Pablo Escobar ruled the city are gone but the legions of assassins and crooks he spawned can still be found.

It is however one of the most interesting places you’ll have the chance to visit with a street life full of colour and drama. In the morning men are laid out comatose on the sidewalk and you can be thankful that you didn’t bump into them the night before. Everyone sells everything everywhere and walking around you’ll almost never see another traveler. A foreigner generates a good deal of friendly attention here.

For the people of Medellin there could be no better place in the world to live and they’re forever asking you how you’re enjoying their Paradise. That kind of enthusiasm is enough to endear you to the place if you could stand the noise and chaos and crime. A good place to take a beer is in the Parque de la Periodista just up from a stroll along the Playa (It’s not a beach). Here you can find a good cross-section of Medellin youth drinking and socialising.

The wealthy live further down the valley in El Poblado and most hardly ever dare to come to the centre. They have their own neighborhood of cool bars and clubs and malls."

"Catholicism doesn’t get in the way too much of having a good time in Colombia
. It’s a modern country and full of life though it’s traditional to get to know someone gradually.

Colombian Women

There are absolute heart breakers walking down the street everywhere you go. You can down to the shopping malls and have a good time just watching them pass by.

They tend to be pretty possessive though. They’re also obsessed by the tele-novela culture and often want to eat up all your time. It’s a common story to see foreign men under the throes of slavery, being asked to do some menial chore every five minutes in the house. They advise Roadjunky that you should do everything so badly the first time that you never get asked again.

There are strong tendencies towards the dramatic. If you try to break up with your girlfriend don’t be surprised if she goes into convulsive fits in your arms, declaring that she doesn’t want to live any more.

Colombian Guys

This is deep in the heart of machismo culture where men are men and ready to prove it. Boys definitely don’t cry here and feelings are something that belong to women. There are plenty of exceptions of course but as a rule of thumb it’s fairly true.

You get the feeling that men never really grow up here. They have the enthusiasm of a boy at the age of 40. I saw a bunch of them wrestling and diving into a swimming pool at a hotel – finally their wives had to beg the security to stop them before they hurt themselves. "

It's true, while I'm in Medellin I never see other foreigners, only in Parque Lleras.. I don't even see them in Parque Poblado, and certainly nowhere else. They don't see me either, with my dark hair/eyes and decent Spanish, I blend in.

" but the legions of assassins and crooks he spawned can still be found."

Unfortunately still true.

"In the morning men are laid out comatose on the sidewalk"

Or dead, I woudl find assassinated dudes outside my doorstep. No ambulances, just police. Well, outside my doorstep once. Other places other times. Not nice.

It's a great place though

well, SG, it's like this..............first problem was with copywrite problems............the second deletion was because that other website where the original copy was copied from is a dating site. it's against the rules here to post about colombian dating and matrimonial sites.

but medoblado can run wild over the site.
