Which Colombian city has the nicest weather/most desirable climate?

I was thinking from:

* Barranquilla
* Bogota
* Cali
* Medellin

I guess humidity and heat are more likely to be factors than the cold!

Once again, thanks in advance for your valued input!

Take it easy all

Goose.

Bogotá is hot and humid, so that's out. Cali is to fricken cold, scratch that one. Medellin is hot but dry like the Sahara. So I guess Barranquilla with its low humidity and spring-like temps would be my choice.

What? What, no votes for San Jose del Guaviare? With its great skiing and rushing trout streams I don't see how it can be beat, plus the friendly locals.

utopiacowboy says on Sep 10, 2005, 11:39:

Hands down, Medellin. No need for air conditioning or central heat. They have a lovely spring-like climate year-round.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

kernow62 says on Sep 10, 2005, 12:38:

Medellin, ha!! I suppose it is alright, but then again it is full of paisas, so who wants to go there!

Spring-like in the Sahara perhaps!

You are just trying to get Goose to go to that God-forsaken part of Colombia so that he won't hook up with one of "Elmos" girls.

it's a tie between Medellin and Cali. If you like a bit warmer then it's Cali. Medellín has a lovely climate too and so does Popayán. Spring all the time but no real warmth. I believe the median temp in Cali is rising slowly but surely; also I haven't been able to spot a perfect time for my visits there wetaherwise. 24 degrees Centigrades, year around is summer all the time. The humidity is not too bad and the nights can be even a bit chilly.

Depends a lot on you Given that nominal 'room temperature' is around 21C I would say Medellin is the statistically best city for temperature. I prefer Bogotá because I like it on the cool side. Cali would already be a bit too warm for me.

kernow62 says on Sep 11, 2005, 10:30:

Ditto that Rubiazo, Bogotá suits me best.

Mario says on Sep 11, 2005, 11:03:

I love the temperatures in Bogota. But it's strange as hell when I see people wearing a ski mask or women holding a scarf up around their face and it's a balmy 68 - 70°F outside.

This isn't even approaching cold by a long shot. What would they wear if they had to go out in 35°F weather? Dress up like an Eskimo or those heavy snow suits worn in Antartica?

kery says on Sep 11, 2005, 12:02:

Bogota rain Rubiazo:

Bogota cooler tempratures and lower humidity suites me too. But how about rain? Does rain alot more in Bogota than Cali?

Bogota rain kat:

From what i hear Bogota is cool and dry. Never been yet. Am I wrong?

The other question I have is: how about rain? Does it rain alot more in Bogota than in Cali?

of all the colombian cities I've been to, Medellin is my... favorite as far as climate goes.

Now if I can convince my novia to move there when I migrate to Colombia?

aztec says on Sep 11, 2005, 12:30:

Cool and... ...rains heavily in a couple of months. The combination sometimes makes the weather cold. Nevertheless, I personally like the Bogotá weather best.

Mario, I also have observed the covering of the face. I guessed it must be because of all the pollution coming from the vehicles.

Medellin for me Having stayed in Barranquilla and Medellin and visited the airport at Bogota, I like Medellin. Was hot during the day but I could walk for hours and would very rarely break a sweat. Night time you really need a light jacket or heavy shirt.

thur says on Sep 12, 2005, 08:10:

Bogotá. From friends I've heard they really like the warm Medellin climate. I don't remember much from Medellin, so I'd go for Bogotá with it's stable 18°C. It's cool, but not that cold during the day. One just have to avoid open spaces where there's a lot of wind and with a bit of sun it's quite nice.

Medellin Without Question!!! In query order:
BAQ – Hot and oppressively humid
BOG – On the cooler side bordering on cold
CLO – Warm but not uncomfortable
MDE – Springtime or Perfect.
This is relative to the temperatures I experience living in Miami.

Bogota CLIMATE is not hot!! There are many chilly nights where my wife and I are under several blankets! Bogota is not extremely humid. It's not a heavy humidity that you find in warmer areas. The avrg temp in is about 70 farenheight!

Lived here about 4 months, and it seems everyday you wake up you never know if it might just barely hit 80. It gets cold fast, and damp. Scarfs are common.

US equivalent would be San Francisco, California. Except the dense population & heavy auto exhaust with a high altitude are big differences.

If your sensitive to the pollution as I am. You just adjust your time to avoid getting stuck in rush hour traffic jams, behind a bunch of old buses.

It's the climate & the environment you must consider. In a foreign country your much more likely to have problems adjusting to altitudes, and new strains of colds etc.

There are plenty of nice areas around bogota that are not on major roads, which provide nice cool mountain air.

Just take it really easy while you adjust to a new climate; humidity, damp air and altitude can give you a cold quite quickly.

TAKE IT EASY YOUR FIRST COUPLE WEEKS AND YOU WILL ADJUST FINE! Then if you have asthma just get a flu shot, its that simple!

Bogota is much safer than Rio! This town is on the move up!
