Which calling cards to use over land line to Colombia?

I am astudent wondering what phone cards other members of this forum use to call Colombia. Also, It would be appreciated to hear what everyone thinks to be the best deals or best values overall.

I am aware most phone cards have different rates by city and am currently interested in calling Cali, Bogotá, and Popayán.

Thanks for your time.

Also It may help us to know where in the world you are calling Colombia from. I think that the card I might use could be very different from the one you might use!

Penny for Penny VMACORP. They have excellent rates, pinless dialing, call records, the best customer service and are the best value overall. Unfortunately, they only have local access numbers in Florida but i you have cell phone with free long distance you should be all right.

Not really a card, but...
Skype has a pretty reasonable SkypeOut rate for the cities
5.5 cents/min I believe. Some people love it, others hate it.
Myself, the quality for calls to Colombia is usually very good.

When I need to use a calling card, thare are a bunch at speedypin.com
Usually I'd buy the "Xtra Clean" card - reasonable rates
(4.9 cents/min + 10% tax) to Colombia via their toll-free number.

CALLING CARDS I use the Colombian card 'ETB" $5 dollars gives me about 90 minutes to call Bogota from Florida. A relative that lives in N.Y told me that ORBITEL has a better card but I have not tried that one yet.

Mario,

What card do you use and most importantly what are the fees? If you look at their web site they have a new card "Halo Colombia" that has a $100 guarantee.

Pesonally, I like VMACORP because I like to call whenever I want and know exactly what I'm being charged. If I start with 100 minutes and talk for 7, the next time I call it will say that I have 93.

I call Colombia but I also call Poland a lot and their rate is incredible there.

3 minute roundng, 79 cent maintanance fee. How does that equal 1.7 cents?

Mario tell us the truth How does your card come out to 1.7 cents a minute when you have 3 minutes rounding and .79 cents maintenance fee? Even if you buy a brand new card everyday and use it straight through to the end. I am sure the maintenance fee is every week. Do the calculations.

I don't know Mario Mario, I think you are missing the point. Most of can't nor want to stay on the phone for 100 minutes each time we call. What if I need to get laid or something?

I still think that VMA is the best thing around and there is no other calling card company that does what they do:

(from esanchez at vmacorp.com)

Dear Customer,

For the next five days, VMA is offering our customers’ family and friends free calls from Colombia to the US via our VMA CallME Card. The system is limited to 50 calls per day at a maximum of 10 minutes per call.

Please have your family and friends go to http://www.vmacorp.com/custom/callmefree.html to initiate the call.

We thank you for your patronage.

Sincerely,

Ed Sanchez

Mario,

so basically you are saying that the STS card is only good if you are going to talk for an hour an forty minutes otherwise you could end up loosing big on this card. I guess its all a matter of perception.

FOR SERVICE AND QUALITY WITH SPEED DIAL AND NO PINS EVER I CHOSE WWW.CALLINGFORCHEAP.COM
THEY HAVE GREAT RATES AND

NO connection fees
No maintenance fees
No Pins needed
No commitment
Always NEAREST minute rounding (not 3-4 minute like many others)
Speed dialing
Online account management
And a bunch of free minutes when you sign up.

and yes...to some people out here, I know how you feel about non sts cards. Thanks for the reply before you post. lol. gggrrrrrrr.

PS. STS Cards have HUGE maintanence fees. They are also a very basic service, but just like camera phones and sports cars... Some people like options at a good price!

Honestly,

Mario is probably right but I think he fails to understand that most people don't talk on the phone as much as he does. That's why most us don't like the STS card.

I just have to ask, Mario what does one talk about for 9.5 hours? I'm a woman and I can't even be on the phone that long.

For Mario or others Mario, if I understand correctly, STS is the best deal given two conditions:
1. you won't make frequent short (say under 20 minute) calls, and
2. you will use up all balance within a short time (less than 2 wks)

Or, would you dissagree?

Or, for example, (not knowing all the STS charges or how STS computes fees and such), for someone making say less than 10 calls per week, with a few calls being 2-5 minutes, a few being 10-20 minutes, and only 1-3 calls being 30-60 minutes... would STS be a good choice, say compared to my MetroPCS Superquick card (no MetroPCS account required) which charges 3cents/minute to Cali or 8cents/minute to Medellin?
