Which banks can transfer money to Colombia?

I think in another post I saw Bank of America can transfer to an account at Banco Colombia. Do you know of any other US Banks with links to Colombia Banks?

Any US bank can transfer money to a Colombian bank. The problem comes when you have to sit around a week or two and wonder where the money is, then go into the Colombian bankd 4 or 5 times to make them find it!

My transfres to Davivienda take about 20 minutes from the time I initiate the transfer in the US until it is in my account here and any bank in the US can transfer to youracount here. I have been doing this for five years without any problems.

I have not seen this question yet...I think this a good thread..BanColombia has a branch downtown Miami in the Brickell area and also searched there US ABA number and they have one...Can you deposit dollars in this bank to any account even if its under another name and that account is in Pesos...Now I am assuming they only have an ABA number for Pension payments and Social Security checks and will not allow direct deposits for Payroll..which would be nice if I work in Miami and have payroll deposits in a BanColombia account which I guess they will convert the dollars to Pesos.. Just wondering if there here just to cater to Colombian Citizens that are here in Miami visiting or working or can US citizens open an account with them thru the Miami office.

Just curious..

It's an old topic but worth repeating again i guess. Bank of America charges $45.00 to do a transfer. I've read here repeatedly that Citibank is the best for bank to bank transfers. Typically, I like to use the U.S. post office (Dinero Seguro) and do it for $10.00. (Screw Western Union too).

The colombian banks will usually hold the money for 3 business days for GRINGOS and 5-7 days for a COLOMBIAN, after that, they should release the funds. If not, you will need to raise some hell with the branck manager. That has been my experience with Bancolombia on money being sent from one private account to another.

If you want to send a larger amount to buy an apartment, be prepared to jump through a lot of hoops before the Colombian bank will release the funds. I needed a letter from my home bank stating how long I had the account with them and where and how I had obtained the money. They needed the original offer to purchase, copies of my recent bank statements. Then I had to go to a notary and get some kind of statement there. They managed to jack me around for nearly 2 weeks.

TOMTOM33, for got about that, you are correct. anything over 5 thousand a month and they usually want to know where and how you got your money. Its the drug money thing they get all ramped up about.

I wonder if you can eliminate many problems by going to BanColombia in Downtown Miami and start the process right here in the States...via consulate and BanColombia in Miami..

Bancolombia and banco bogota are the biggest but the most difficult if you want to open an account. they are tough on foreigners and want business and personal references. Other smaller banks are better.

How do you transfer or wire money to Davivienda? Does anyone has done that? Do I need just the SWIFT code and the bank account number of the person in Colombia? Thanks.
