Where to stay?

I am going to Colombia in two days and am still trying to find a place to stay in Armenia, Manizales and Pereira. Can someone please suggest a safe and clean hostel to stay in each of these cities. I do not care about facilities but rather on a budget side. Lets say about $10-15 US a night. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Please provide contact info so that I can make a reservation.

Thanks in advance
Jose

In Manizales try the mountain hosue hostel - right in the best part of town. Run by 2 girls from medellin.

To my knowledge there are no hostels in Armenia or Pereira. You can definitely find something in that price range if you just let a taxi driver guide you.

If you've got your heart set on a hostel, phone Mountain House or any hostel in Colombia and they will recommend you an option in those particular cities. Even if there's no hostel, you'll probably find that backpackers tend to congregate in the same one or two hotels due to word of mouth recommendation.

que nota!

We were going to open up a hostel here in Armenia - it just wouldn't work out. Believe it or not, not enough hostel tourism to support the business. We studied the market well and.... disappointment. They're a bunch of hotels in the center now, but way overpriced - I think like 70.000 COP for basically a bed and a bathroom.

I saw a thread the other day saying the hostel in Manizales was empty, as in noone there at all. It might be closed, check on it. for a while now I heard that place wasn't doing to good (another reason we didn't start), so maybe that was it.

In Armenia you should stay at Hostal San Fernando (?) which costs about $30,000 for a queen-sized bedroom for one, with good hot water shower. It is only about two blocks from the alcalde.

Cl 2 #18-117

I'm sure any taxi driver would know it.
