Am looking for a recommended place to stay for just a night on Islas del Rosario? Any information you have about the islands would be appreciated...

dwmte7 says on Oct 10, 2007, 09:11: don't really have a clue...however, i have a friend who's family owns one of the islands. if you're in cartagena, go to a restaurant, el mar del juan and ask for juan eglesias, the owner and ask him. tell him and old friend from way back said hello. dwmte 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

poco says on Oct 10, 2007, 09:48: Humm, after reading the comments. I'd say one night would be a waste. I doubt there are vendors or natives on the smaller islands to bother you but they are everywhere in Cartagena. morphus says on Oct 10, 2007, 09:56: The travel agent at the Hilton told us there were no vendors on Islas del Rosario. Bullshit! They swarmed the shit out of as soon as we got off the boat. I bought some fruit and beer with my friends. The bead guys got angry because we did'nt buy their crap. The local dipshit guys followed us around and mocking us....pointing, laughing and saying shit in Spanish. I almost had to beat the crap out of one guy. Maybe there are nicer parts but never again!

Mr. Hollywood says on Oct 10, 2007, 10:05: The beaches there are barely beaches. Majagua, which is the resort owned by the Sofitel Santa Clara in Cartagena, is nice and laid back, but don't expect sugar sand beaches. Crushed coral and seaweed is more like it. The day trip there is fun for a change of pace from Cartagena, though. On a good day the boat ride can be really neat. I hear it can be really rough, too, though.

Cerealkiller says on Oct 10, 2007, 12:10: Ive stayed in San Pedro Majagua before...it was ok. You can go diving, kayaking, snorkeling...vendors are annoying and chances are everyone will try and rip you off. There is a Town in Isla Grande called Orica, 15 minute walk from Majagua hotel. Its a TINY town, or caserio, a security guard at the hotel said it was safe to visit so we went...they were having a party and people were buying us beers and being really nice to us...That was my favorite bit of the trip. I was told the Majagua hotel was the most comfortable in the area, but there is no A/C or TVs... if you're not an outdoorsy type, and youre basically looking for a sandy beach and a tan, then islas del Rosario aren't the best option. svdo2006 says on Oct 20, 2007, 17:35: Just got back - We went to Cocoliso, but just for a day. It was a tiny beach, but pretty and served its purpose. To swim, relax and enjoy the beach for a few hours. We didn't get hassled at all. I wouldn't stay the night. The place is pretty run down, but for $20 each, including 2 hours boat ride and a fish lunch, it wasn't a bad deal. Thanks for the info.
