Where to ATM?

I am now living in Bucaramanga and am trying to find the best bank to ATM at, if it even matters. I am from the US and have a Washinton Mutual account that claims they will not charge a fee for use of ATMs worldwide. So now, I just need to find a bank that doesn't change much. Any suggestions?

Do not really worry about the Colombian bank it's the USA bank that will stick you. If WAMU says not \charge by them go with that. Our bank, Bancolombia, usually allows $400.000 COP at a time and I know you can make at least two(maybe more) withdrawals a day. We pay no fees to use that service.

BTW even though WAMU will not charge a transaction fee you will pay a 1.5% currency conversion fee.

If you have, or can get a California address, Wescom charges no fee whatsoever from any atm machine in colombia. I take $700.000 out of Citibank all the time and got $1966 per dollar last week.

Washington Mutual maybe won't charge a flat fee but they will get you on the conversion fee....

Capital One ATM Card No Flat fee and will absorb currency exchange fee at any Plus Network ATM worldwide..
Capital One Credit Card/ POS Transactions will absorb currency exchange fee/NO ATM withdrawals because its a credit card unless your a madman for Cash Advances.

Citibank Debit Card// NO Flat fee or currency exchange fee for ATM Withdrawals at there ATMs only/ POS Transactions will nail you for 2% and Citigold Customers 1% on POS Transacations.. Other ATM's Don't know but will nail you...maybe 1% to 2%..

If your only on a vacation don't change banks..not worth it but if you become a normal person down there you need to make arrangements for better fees with your bank..

I just changed to Capital One Money Market and Credit Card Combination very simple..

I was able to withdraw 500.000 at a time from Davienda (sp?). There didn't seem like a limit to the number of withdrawals, except for the amount of cash in the actual machine, or the cardholder's withdrawal limit per day (set by the home bank - not the Colombian bank).

BEWARE of gold diggers.

Citibank 800,000
Davivienda 500,000
Ban Colombia 400,000
Banco Occedente 300,000

Like RJ said limit set by your home bank...

okay, thanks all but I think my question was misunderstood. I know all about the conversion fee. It is 1% with my card. I am just concerned about atm fees since it won't be a point of sale purchase. in usa, if I was to go to a wells fargo and atm it would cost me about $3.00 additional, this is the kind of fee i am asking about. As far as the amount I can atm a day, don't worry about that, that is not what I am trying to ask. Thanks though and sorry for not being more specific. Also, I am not looking to change banks or anything. I am getting 5% interest with WaMu so I am very happy with this "free" account.

Then no fees Adrienne....Enjoy your trip...Actually 1% is not bad thats the usual...

No Fees with ATM's they make there money on the conversion...by I think they get a portion of the 1%..
