Where should I live in Medellin?

Hey guys

Just arrived in Medellin. I am currently in a hostel, but an looking to establish myself in an apartment as soon as possible. I am hoping to find a place for around 400,000-450,000 a month.

Poblado is nice, and if I can find a cheap place I wouldn´t mind staying here, but I am wondering if anyone can give me some other suggstions as far as other neighborhoods are concerned. I would like to stay close to Poblado because its nice and everyone has been raving about the nightlife here.

Are there any other really cool barrios in Medellin I should consider? As a point of reference, how far are they from Poblado? And are there any resources other than my two feet and my mouth that are of any use?

Thanks
BamBam

You might find a place, but not in Poblado and nowhere fully furnished with all services, internet, phone, etc. That price MIGHT get you a room somewhere, or maybe a tiny apartment in a much lower estrato, but you'll have to put up more green to live on your own!

My honest opinion would be to look into living along any of the stops where the metro is. More specifically, I like the Estadio/Floresta area. You can probably find a nice sized one bedroom apartment for around 500k month. You might have to put down six months if you have no signer AND this does not include utils AND it will not be furnished. You're ride over to Poblado via the Metro would be 10-15 minutes.

I've seen studio apartments in Poblado going for 500,000 pesos a month.

Dear Bambam,

I lived in Colombia for 3 years. Are you willing to share ? I might be going to Colombia soon and especially the island of San Andres where they speak a lot more English than the Colombian mainland as it was once a British Island.

Thank you,

at gringokid you were getting majorly ripped off. You can get a 2bdrm/2bth apt in Poblado for that amount (unfurnished of course).

in El Estadio, 1 million pesos should get you a 250sq mt house.
