Where is this located in Colombia and what is it ???

There are NOT many of these. Only the richer areas (like where I live) can afford one of these.

PS: I'd bet an Engineer / Architect designed this.

Also it won't block the cool mountain breezes !!!!

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions What fabulous prize are you offering this time? Hummm,, I hadn't thought about a prize ? Maybe I'll show my nuts to the winner ? or I've got a picture of a cute pussy ? or I've got a furry little beaver photo ? Maybe the person winning should request which he/she would rather see ??

It looks to me like the roof of the really out of place/ugly toll booth just outside of Armenia going to Periera......correct???

It looks to me like the new toolbooth made of 'guadua' just outside Armenia on the road that leads to Pereira.

Yep, that's the one. There is another leaving Pereira heading toward Cali under construction at this time. I intend to take a trip to the construction site and TAKE PHOTOS of the construction,, I wonder how long it will be before they ask me what I'm doing.

Bonus question Why has the price of REALLY nice Guadua (not that cheap construction grade crap) shot through the roof ? Last time I checked it was not available (not the grade material shown in this photo) at a "decent" price,, it cost MORE than wood,, my guess is a DOUBLE in the last 3 years.

Simon says on Jan 13, 2007, 17:21:

Yeah, that is pretty cool, Bufalo!

I also saw one near Manizales on the road from Pereira, but it wasn't open yet, but it might be operating now.

Actually this tollbooth just won an architectural price... as one of the ten best public structures completed in Colombia in the last year (source: Semana).

to me it looks retarded. go with the natural look of all guadua, like many of hte buildings in the parks or go with metal. the mix looks horrible to me.

Simon velez designed a lot of the major guadua structures, most notable Panaca. I believe he was brought to Japan or somewhere to make other buildings, maybe he designed this?

Bonus question: Just like the Jeep Willyz in the region shot up. Even though cheap, it is now in demand. Used to cost us 30,000 cop to go to the farm, now aobut 50-60,000. That's why I bike it.

bufalo says on Jan 15, 2007, 18:07:

Aurthur, you got ripped off for that second lamp. Even in Salento which is overpriced and during the festivals, we bought one for only $40,000. the center of Armenia has them for 45,000.

poco says on Jan 16, 2007, 18:05:

Why Guadua is more expensive Or so I've been told is the fact it is in DEMAND OUTSIDE COLOMBIA !!! Yep, those nasty, ner do well foreigners are paying 60,000 pesos and UP for a 3 to 5 meter long 10cm O.D. plus, CULTIVATED Guadua straight section.

Armenia has a few GUADUA farms in the rural areas with,, you won't believe this,, EDUCATED Colombians who have been experimenting with Growing Guadua for,, well,, I don't know for sure but they were in full swing 4 years ago.

The farm I visited was also part of a RESEARCH CENTER. They built a dozen items out of Guadua to demonstrate the construction techniques. A large bridge being the most outstanding.

Funny isn't it, Guadua was thought to be a low cost material for house construction,, now those filthy RICH Japs are ruining the chances of all those Colombians who are pretty good at eating beans and farting a chance to own their very own home !!!!

LIFE IS NOT FAIR !!!

Anyway, here is the finest Colombian Pussy I've seen to date.

PS: Jew them down,,. Ha, Ha, Ha I’ve thought of that exact same thing,, I wonder if Colombia has something similar ??

Darn it Brode We must be going to the same places,, distressing,, there must be some kind of FRANCHISE for "stuff" in Colombia !!!!!

Have you seen these ??? This "art" has become more and more prevelent in the last 6 months.

I got this in Pereira at La Victoria. What is outstanding is the fact there was actually a STORE that did NOT sell Clothes in that shopping center !!!! can you believe it ??

Just looking at this takes my breath away,,, seeing the purple wood inset in MY NEW BAR TOP and the detailed art work (anatomically correct) deserves a fancy photo frame. Damn those Colombians,, now they are taking over the art business.

Guess what,, I think your Guadua Lamp is bigger than mine !!!
