Where have you eaten the best Bandeja Paisa in your life?

Mine was in Guatape near El Pinon, overlooking the water.

I would say Hatoviejo (?) in Medellin, but it wasn't the cheapest one I've had.

nueva york bombero says on Mar 16, 2009, 11:44:

I agree, here in the states the best is in Jackson Heights, although Miami has a good one too.
I mean in Colombia! There's a small restaurant across the street from Mondongo's on Calle 10 (near Lleras) in Medellin.
The entire meal is under 9,000 pesos including drink.

I don`t know about bandeja Paisa, since I really don`t like it, what I stop for is Frijoladas and the best one I found was at El Envigadoreño downtown Bogotà. Comida criolla is much better.

Bombero this is the breakdown, I have eaten Bandeja paisa in Barcelona, Madrid, Sydney, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Houston, Quito, Lima, Cali, Bogota, Santa Marta, Cartagena, Barranquilla and Medellin. The BEST, VERY BEST was in Santa Fe de Antioquia in a hotel that has also a restaurant in the patio of the house, the Worst VERY WORST!!! in Houston, a place called mi Pueblito, God was it HORRIBLE!!
Out of Colombia I would have to say Jackson Heights 31 ave La Ruana Roja accross the street from Carniceria Antioquia or Risaralda, they sell there Cargamanto beans, the true beans for Bandeja Paisa, if any one knows of the place let me know, I would love to have some Cargamanto ship to Houston where I'm living temporarily. There was a place in El Poblado called La Aguacatala, They also had an excellent Bandeja paisa, expensive though.

All truth goes through three phases. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self evident.

best in the estrado 2 and 3 typical restaurants[look for the ones that are full of diners, around 12--12:30}. worst in the mall food courts, and much more expensive as well. geuss sometimes we don't get what we pay for.
it is actually fairly healthy billyb, if ya don't down it all, but the red beans can definitely cause problems, later.

traveling hopefully is always better than arriving

whitewidow says on Mar 16, 2009, 20:50:

it all boils down to the serving of chicharron and the beans.

- i always drop pounds in colombia, but i blame that on the walking.

I'm no doper! I just play one on TV.

billyb.....maybe el parasito colombianito......

whitewidow says on Mar 16, 2009, 21:01:

the chicharron is what sets the whole dish up IMO. but, sometimes, they are small or if they have been setting for a while, they get "double-fried". the fresh chit is da best.

- how can people not like chicharron? i mean, if you are a fan of bacon, you have to like the chicharron, cierto?

I'm no doper! I just play one on TV.

Papi de Alejo says on Mar 16, 2009, 21:11:

NYB, you can try Mi Territa in Brentwood, Long Island. I never had it there because my friends always told me it was too much to eat. I had it once in a mall in Manizales. I like to eat and am usually the first one finished. My girlfriend kept looking at her watch waiting for me to finish. I will have it again, but as Morph says above, I'll have to plan the meal in advance.
