For starters Since price is often related to distance travelled, you might want to fly to Colombia from somewhere closeby, like Venezuala or Ecuador.

That would be a cheap flight into Colombia.

Even cheaper - walk across the border.

Actually, check Netscape Travel and check "Date Range for Lowest Price"

Christmas and cheap do not come together when you flights into Colombia. Where would you be travelling from, which country?

Think it depends were your flying from.
Don't know about the US but from europe Iberia,Air France and Air COmet plus seem to be the cheapest. Generally flying from Spain seems to be cheap.

travel Usually the cheapest place to fly to from the US is Miami. You can get direct flights from other cities to Bogota, like New York, but they are not at cheap as a rule. Avianca has been the cheapest airline for me this year, but a word of warning, their service sucks and you do not want to have to work out any kind of problem like lost luggage or ticket mix up with them, it could take forever and still not get resolved to you satisfaction. Have you already looked at the online travel sites like travelocity or expedia?

You Picked the WORST Travel Time!! As juanalejo sucently put it. "Christmas and cheap do not come together when you flights into Colombia." The only way to beat this is to fly before say November 24+- and return after January 5+-. Believe me, I know! I fight this battle every year on one of the daughters wants to visit during the holidays. Anything under $600 USD would be a bargain. Another caveat-BOOK EARLY!!!!!!!!!

Alternative airports will likely do you no good-the motto throughout Central and South America seems to be, "Home for the holidays."

"Credidi pretio parvo emere et magno vendere tibi in animo fuisse!" .

Im in South carolina. I heard there was a site on the internet where you could bid on air tickets.
Have any of you tried this out??

Those sites suck, you'll get a ticket full of restrictions and potential problems all to save a little money. You get what you pay for.

Priceline the most popular site for bidding on a ticket is Priceline.com. YOu can enter a price you want to pay and then they will look to see if an airline will accept you price. However, you have to enter you credit card info up front, and if they find a taker, the ticket is automaticly bought. You will not know what time , what airline or anything until it is already bought. And it will be nonrefundable and nonchangeable,so if you don't use it, you lose it. And normally it will not be much cheaper,if any, than what is posted by the airlines by doing a search with the other travel sites.

Example:
roundtrip from Charleston to Bogota 20 dec. return 30 Dec. is about $1200 per person, Delta.

same ticket from Miami is $534, Avianca

skyauction.com
Try skyauction.com, i bought a ticket to Costa Rica for $480 w/ travel insurance. It was about a $100 cheaper. It was totally legit. YOu just have to reead so you do not get a bad deal.

I've used two methods succesfully one was calling a Miami travel agency. The other was using travelocity. Travelocity's flexible dates option gets a lot of the great seat sales!
