Will any bank accept £'s for pesos in Colombia? My husband was stuck in Cali yesterday with a bank card that wouldn't let him get any money out and only has £'s (sterling)in his pocket. He has got to leave Cali before the banks open today and needs to know where to go when trading starts to change up his pounds. Don't suppose the taxi driver at the other end will accept his cash!!

expatriate says on Dec 4, 2006, 04:38: Try Servibanca ATMs Not all ATM cards work in all ATM machines here, but the black and fluorescent green Servibanca ATMs are the most likely to work. There is one at the Cali airport, second floor, departure area, to the left of all of the ticket counters.

el flaco says on Dec 4, 2006, 05:27: Easy I haven't been to Cali but in Medellin I went to a shopping centre where there were lots of bureau de change. I had no problem changing sterling but the rate is poor and the transaction long winded. I'm sure a bank would be fine as well.

larumberainglesa says on Dec 4, 2006, 05:29: Thanks we have not had problems before accessing ATM's without telling the bank we were going abroad. Could be he just couldn't get cash out from some machines. Afraid we are not very organised and have no credit card. Have txt him your replies in case he is still in the airport but I'm sure he will have sorted something out by now(I remember years ago he had to sell his watch at the bus station in Cali to continue his journey to Medellin to see me after the bus was stopped and everyone robbed). He had to spend the night in the airport in Cali only to be told the early morning flight he was on had been overbooked. We always called them AVINUNCA when we lived there and nothing has changed. We were sold a ticket on a booked flight from Madrid to Bogota once and had to stay overnight in Madrid - my husband on a chair in the airport as he didn't have a visa for Spain. (His bags are still in Bogota of course). Always pack a spare pair of knickers if you fly Avianca. Welcome home!
