If there any smart ones left, they will come running out of the jungle to throw down their arms and maybe there will be mercy enuff to allow them to rejoin their families as well. quantum 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Atrevido says on Jul 2, 2008, 16:54: What I don’t get is how Comandante Cesar the "jailer" boarded a modern helicopter in good operating condition with the victims? Are the FARC believably in possession of such aircraft? Well whatever, it seems to have been an absolutely brilliant operation an entire year in the making. With this kind of scrupulous patience on the part of Colombian military intelligence combined with enormous technical backing from the US the FARC doesn´t seem to have a bright future. Not long ago te FARC said something like the three gringos will continue to rot in the jungle so long as Simon Trinidad rots in an American prison. ColombianoGringo (Moderator) says on Jul 2, 2008, 17:19: Regardless of any reservations I may have about Uribe, I applaud him and give him all due credit for having the balls to go forward with this. I can honestly say that most people could not have made that decision. Had the hostages died, it would have likely been the end for Uribe. Granted, he will gain a lot of justified credit for this, but he stood to lose everything politically. ColombianoGringo (Moderator) says on Jul 2, 2008, 17:52: Simon. The primary credit definitely goes to Uribe and the Colombian military. Still, the massive improvement of the military in the last ten years is due largely in part to Plan Colombia dollars and US training. The real heroes here are the Colombians that planned and carried out this operation, but I know that many in the Colombian military are quick to thank the US for its help. juancegomez says on Jul 2, 2008, 18:32: Even if the U.S planned it all the way through, to consciously exaggerate because that is hardly the case even if U.S. intelligence has been key, and Colombia did nothing else but "merely" execute the operation...even that gives Colombia quite a bit of credit, to say the least, that cannot be removed.

brad216 says on Jul 2, 2008, 19:09: Congrats to Uribe and Colombia. Glad to hear on cnn that the usa is giving all credit to Colombia. Supposedly, all the US did was help with equipment to find exactly where the hostages were being held. it was also very interesting hearing that they had a failed operation in Feb that was with the help of the usa. i guess all you need to do is get rid of those americans to run a successful plan.

Gomezman5 says on Jul 3, 2008, 16:21: Oh I would imagine there are not too many Uribe haters out there in the first place. Although, everyone knows that the sentiments of this web site is not exactly in line with the sentiments of a majority of Colombians. After all, it took the popularity of Uribe to finally change the constitution so that he could run (and win by a landslide) for a second term anyway. Even then, his popularity has continued to be greater than 70%.....close to 80% if my memory serves me correct. Above said, I find it difficult that Colombians on this forum could possible find much fault with Uribe. Ooooopps, I forgot. Uribe happens to be Bush's greatest ally in all of Latin America. In fact, with the exception of the UK's former Tony Blair, and what's his name???...from Down Under, Bush and Uribe is about as close as it gets. Uribe likes those dollars and wants them to keep rolling in. So, after all is said, to many on this forum, if you are a supporter of Bush, you cannot be good.....hence Uribe is not too popular here.
