POKER

I would normally drink coors light but cannot find here.

Aguila is exactly what the name tells you it is -100% pure eagle piss.
If I was to imagine what eagle piss in a can tastes like that would be it.

Colombia is not the best for beers. I will drink poker on a hit day. But most taste like Miller High Life left in the sun for a few weeks.

In Manizales they used to have a place where you would order a beer, and they would put three drops of bitters in it and then sprinkle the foam on top with cinnamon.

It was delicious. Almost like a real amber ale.

Guess I haven't had too many of these, but, I like the major ones, Aguila, Pilsen (maybe my fav), Club Colombia (solid beer), Costena (another solid beer) and I think I've only had Brava once, can't speak on it. I guess though if my favorite was based on frequency, it'd probably be Pilsen, as I'd drink that here if it were around.

I have no problem getting drunk on Colombian beer. But you have to buy a 30 bottle container and drink it amongst 2 friends faster than the last bottle gets warm. Colombian beer tastes fine to me. I bought a 6 pack of Budweiser once in Exito. The ex drank two bottles, and was drunk.

Colombian beer is very poor, but surprisingly, I crave whilst in Colombia. I will generally resort to Becks or a proper beer, but occasionally I like an Aguila Light or a Club Colombia. Even Pilsen and Costena are tolerable under the right circumstances

I can see that the majority of the people here are Americans-no insult intended-but American beer is crap, it all tastes like sub-standard lager from Europe!
Having drunk English real ale for 35 years, any fizzy bottled stuff from the USA or Colombia generally tastes like water.
That said, most Brit beer would not be appropriate in this climate so I compromise with Club Colombia because at least it is dry and has a flavour and you can drink a fair few without falling over. Even better if you put a little Pony Malta in it because one thing it seriously lacks is the flavour of malt.
Clyde is totally correct-we have loads of independent brewers making distinctive beers and the selection is enormous-globalization has not killed that aspect of our culture yet! Outside of London, the quality of the beers is generally better because it does not like to travel-in barrels anyway.
Paisa/C/L speaks of Belgian and German beers. Not an expert on those but I have tried a few good ones!
Conclusion-when it is hot, drink the beer here: if not hit the hard stuff or wine.

Better than the Club/Malta mix, is to snort a teaspoon of vodka up each nostril and then bolt half-a-litre of Pony Malta to take away the burning sensation.

Another good beer sadly no longer availible was Ancla at 6.8 % I think it was from a brewry in Tolima I think it was on a par with Kronenbourg etc.
Why is it these trendy bars here sell overpriced Corona which to me is piss water lacks taste or expensive Heineken stick to Club Colombia it's great.
Ps can you still get those Costeñitas in the small green bottle?.
Anyway whose round is it Hic!

Cstew47, I am sorry but you are talking to me directly. Colombia has one of the best foods in Latin America! The problem that you have is that you are married to someone who comes from a region that is not into cooking or promoting Colombian cuisine. Evidence of my statement you can check for yourself their comments here on pbh.
But, if you are interested in learning more about Colombian cooking you are going to have to travel a great deal or buy for yourself a cooking book, or in the meantime read this:

Shiner Bock is mediocre at best, but it seems to have its fans on this site. Must be the Texas contingent.

I agree with you that Antioquia is probably the worst place to judge Colombian food, however, I have traveled extensively throughout Colombia and the world and I rank Colombia at the lower end of the culinary scale. Taking into account that tastes are highly subjective, I have found the best food in Latin America to be in Peru, followed by Mexico and Brazil. Central American food in general is similar to the food I have encountered in Colombia, namely lacking in spice and variety. I have lived in Germany and traveled throughout Italy, France and other European countries who pride themselves on their cuisine. I will always love Colombia for its many charms, but, I don't consider it to be a culinary paradise.

Castew47,
I agree with you on this, "I agree with you that Antioquia is probably the worst place to judge Colombian food" That's why I have noticed several complaints about our food here on pbh from gringos who are dating paisas, maybe they are not getting enough?

But I disagree about your expertise on Colombia cooking. I'll be brief with you here, Colombia has over 2,000 dishes! As I’ve said you have to travel throughout Colombia to know this fact. But based on your comments I can tell you have done that already? However if you have traveled throughout Colombia, a “notorious” danger place for a foreigner to travel alone and if you traveled with your paisa friend, you wasted your time because how can a blind person guide another person?

Just a simple Empanada with aji picate, an Arepa con huevo or an Almojabana o a Pan de yuca are few of the SIMPLE items that would make a culinary expert roll over the floor and bet for some more, lol

P.S. Colombia has over 2,000 recipes and here is ONE of the several food recipes from COLOMBIA!
