What's Happening In Your City?

post your local news of general interest here: Colombian Newsreel as reported by the expat community and as reported in the online papers from Colombia. (Strictly Colombia-related)

I'll start: In Cali, the Cauca River is floating with garbage. Clean-up needed, urgently.

The Mio is being delayed by legal hassle; two lawsuits have been filed by different entities which both believe to have the right to run it.

What's happening in your town?

Thanks, CatGirl.
Well, no takers? I'll just keep on reporting from Cali then...
I love to take a peek at the "sociales". Just to see what my friends las señoras del dedo parado are up to while little children are reaching out at traffic light for a limosna at 10 o'clock at night and whole families of displaced peasants with little babes strapped on their parents backs are roaming the city streets late at night trying to find a place to bed the litttle ones...let me see...at the social clubs the members are celebrating the Chinese New Year and everybody is blond, has straight hair and is dressed in red....I s'ppose it's not because they support Chavez...

Look for an announcement next week that Annette Taddeo, a dynamic and well respected Colombia-born Miami businesswoman, will run against Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, who was elected in 1989 while her husband prosecuted Raul Martinez (see District 21 above) and thwarted Martinez’ intent to run for Congress. Now, that would be a grudge match – if Ex Hialeah Mayor Raul Martinez were running against Ros-Lehtinen -- but the district lines no longer call for that!

MaFe, you've been in Cali more recently than I. (I 'm just reading ElPais on-line:) I was looking at the photos of the "sociales" section and noticed that almost all the ladies were strawberry blond and had straightened their hair. I certainly hope it is just a phase, too much bleach totally ruins your hair on the long run. I like to get my hair highlighted in the summer, but every time I have had it done in Cali they have totally destroyed my hair by using too strong products on my fine, thin Nordic hair.

Never mind off-topic subject, silly cones are always on topic when we discuss Cali women...

Yes..a bit off topic jaja, but why not
I agree Desi. People ask me what color I use and many times ask my hairdresser what she does with my hair. She always says "nothing! I just cut it" ...when people ask me I tell them "I don't know, this is what I was born with, gotta ask my mother"
I don't understand why people like to destroy their hair. What is wrong with natural?
The other thing that people dont know about blond is that you cant put all those safer highlight rinses in that darker haired people can. It looks so pretty, but I cant do it (Cherry hues, Blue hues UNO) jaja. ..(Although I must admit sometimes I straighten)
The grass is ALWAYS greener, huh?

Bacon and mushrooms,, hummmm, I don’t think mine will be prepared using exotic condiments.

The current thinking is to stick the a sharp stick through the rabbit (semi fire-proof) and rotate it slowly over charcoal. I’ll probably take some mesquite flavored BBQ sauce and apply a liberal coating to bugs. When bugs meets his end I’ll take some pictures.

He’s pretty contented in his tree hutch. During the day the hutch can be placed in various locations around the yard. Bugs eats the grass that sticks through the bars. No lawn mower required.
