What's going on?!

I log on today, and am totally shocked!! Most new posts are not even about Colombia, but about sex and drogs. What is the deal? About guys trying to find a sexy Colombian woman, about their favortie drugs, and about their sexual adventures.

I am new here, but was under the understanding that this was a website about a country -- Colombia. Please do not tell me this is typical :( !!! I'm totally disappointed and disgusted by the lack of substance y las vulgaridades!

Let's make this a great place to share opinions about a wonderful country and get useful information before travelling! I thought I read something about staying on topic and this not being a dating site...

don't worry dear... we have been a little short on substance, lately,
and the institutionalised retardees, like the oldgringo,
are just passing time, between deeper discussions.
the oldgringo might suggest to a newer member, that a search of the site archives, will offer many valuable insights on many of your interests, and can always be revived.

I didn't know... I didn't know you could even post something without a name and the date being on the bottom??...there are posts on here by quiensabequien like those Soy un papasito, question about drugs, and Soy un pecador that don't even have a name on them. Not to mention somebody that needs to look up the meaning of the word charming because I think he is a little confused about what it means. :) Lack of substance I can understand, no problem with joking, but I really don't want to know about people's sexual habits. Not to mention that it seems out of the scope of this website.

Thanks for your advice about searching older discussions. I did the other day and found a really funny one about mosquitos.

corazon en colombia, If you contribute positive things about Colombia or say good things about Colombia on Friendly Talkzone, be prepared to be criticized as being out of touch or living in Disneyland. On the other hand, if you want to talk about breast enlargement, beer, partying, and beaches you'll find lots of people to share your concerns.

platano I think that there are several people on here that respond intelligently to your posts. Yes sometimes they do attack you, but I think that jgc for one responds to your ideas (usually).

platano says on Jun 9, 2006, 17:36:

yes, johna, you are correct... the generosity of jcg is "asombroso" and he usually is able to correct the errors in my thinking. The problem is I don't seem to learn from the attempts to educate me and I repeat the same errors over and over. It is a difficult situation for them because human patience has its limits. I continue to be blissfully ignorant.

Geez, Platano, you CAN say good things about Colombia. Frequently you say something good about Colombia in the context of slamming a certain other country. I much prefer to see a statement like "Colombians generally seem to eat a healthy diet with fruits, juices and non-processed foods." rather than one which goes "Colombians eat so much healthier than those fat pigs in North America who are disgusting slobs that voted for George Bush." Why should we ever read anything about the US on this site? Stick to Colombia.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

UTC, I have not said anything about the United States or George Bush on this thread. What are you talking about? From whence this unsolicited attack?

You are not in Kansas, anymore, Dorothy!!!...jajaja...and i get. kick out of all the Spanglish speakers out there!!! (myself included!) everyone slams Spanglish, but with a few exceptions, most speak spanglish here on PBH! just an interesting non-vulgar post.....

Just my opinion...

I didn't see it as an attack, Platano. It's just that here you are complaining that you can't say anything good about Colombia without other people criticizing you. On other threads you have said good things about Colombia in the context of swipes or jibes at other countries. That's what gets my goat. Do you want me to find you an example?

No, no need to bring up the inconvenient past.. :) I do sometimes praise Colombia as being better than other countries in so many ways... and I try to provide objective measures so it's not just my opinion, e.g., mental health (as measured by DSM IV and ICD 10), scientific publication (as measured by published research in first tier journals), medical education (as measured by USMLE scores), etc.

If by objectively showing Colombian superiority I have hurt your feelings, I apologize.

My point exactly.

Shania Twain has outsold Shakira by better than a 2-1 margin. I guess this objectively shows Canadian superiority. So nani nani boo boo!

Nationalism is a sign of arrested development. Get over it. You know who I want to see win the World Cup? The best team - the team that deserves it no matter what country they come from. And do I give a rat's ass about Shania's record sales? NOT.

What's new to do in Cali? It has been some 6 years since I was last in Cali and my inlaws have told me that the Sur de Cali is completely unrecognizable from the way it was in 2000. We may be visiting in Aug. and I was wondering about some places to eat--El Obelisco del Sur (detras del Bennett) o La Parrilla de Don Simon por Autopista o el restaurante japones en Ciudad Jardin o los nuevos sitios de Granada--just some nostalgic places where the food and the service were so supreme. Also, how are the beer joints like Martin's and ese lugar por la 8 en Santa Monica, Palos de Moguer?
Anyways, I know the South is supposed to be as complete now as the North was in 2000, so what are the recommendations ?

Cali has this new mall! Palmetto's it's close to Cosmocentro. Check it out, it's newer, cleaner, and slightly more expensive. Other than that i don't think cali change that much.

and another new mall, further south, Jardin Plaza on Simon Bolivar with Cra100; very nice Home Center and Carrefour.

Yes, the South has changed very much since 2000 but I have a hard time pinpointing the changes in that time frame. New residential areas are being built towards Macrocentro and el Caney; people keep on hoping that the Navarro city dump will eventually disappear.

Formerly a long-time South Cali resident even I had difficulties in getting my bearings there during the first days.

Now, about being as "complete" as the North I don't really know what you meant by that. The south of Cali has been "complete" for me for the longest time.
