70 people were killed (murdered) during this years Feria de las Flores.
Source: My attorney belongs to a large association of other attorney's in Medellin and was given this information from very reliable sources within their association while attending a conference.
In addition to the above my attorney told me a dear friend, a fellow attorney, was murdered last Saturday. The attorney who was murdered was a very likable guy with no apparent ties to anything sketchy. My attorney also states crime has risen significantly in the last year and advises all to take precautions.

ferran says on Aug 11, 2009, 21:15: That is absolutely true, in reality crime has risen 50% over last year in most of Colombia, according to people that I have talk to and reliable sources are saying, Uribe created a calm before the storm, the band aid that he put over the gash can no longer do, it has become infected. The same problem that existed before his terms are evident now and have gotten worst, you can't sweep have of the disfranchised population under the rug, four million internal refugees and growing and the military complex keeps on growing along with the power elite getting richer. and you want four more years of the same? All truth goes through three phases. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self evident. 0 funny, 1 helpful. |

Haddeman says on Aug 12, 2009, 08:13: Things are indeed getting more violent here in Envigado and Medellin but the reasons are more complex than Mr Ferran alludes to.Recently many leaders of the Oficina de Envigado have been apprehended and are comtemplating their crimes in Itagui prison. This has left a power vacuum and various groups are using extreme violence to wrest control of the said lucrative organisation.
