What took them so long? Asesor presidencial descalifica marcha contra paramilitares

http://www.elpais.com.co/paisonline/notas/Febrero112008/obduliog.html

"Yo personalmente no participaré...difícilmente la sociedad colombiana participará en tal tipo de convocatoria cuando precisamente estamos marchando contra los que convocan",

...and why am I not surprised that Mr. asesor should presume to speak for "la sociedad colombiana"? Oblivious to the fact that while it is true the FARC victimizes fellow-colombians by kidnapping and detainng them under conditions less that human, the FARC's sworn anemies -so many of whom are outstanding citizens of la sociedad- do not bother to do so, they just murder their fellow-colombians and bury them in mass graves.

Let's not forget that FARC can also torture, massacre or simply kill people, to say the least...mass graves included.

It's not like kidnapping is the only thing they do, as much as it may be the most mentioned.

As for the actual news...for me, the fact that certain pro-FARC websites (ANNCOL, in particular) support this new march (or actually a concentration, but whatever...) shouldn't be used as an excuse to condemn it, just as the support from paramilitary leaders doesn't really condemn the previous mobilization.

Of course, in any case, some people, on both sides of this discussion, will stick to their respective positions....(I didn't march on Feb 4th because of paramilitary support vs. I won't do anything on March 6th because of ANNCOL/FARC support).

How come ANNCOL can receive support through PAYPAL?
Can someone explain me that?

Well, I marched last week despite my reservations about political manipulation of the anti-Farc march, and I'll do so again next month despite ANNCOL manipulation.
To be honest, I think in any public protest there's always going to be different reasons for marching, as well as manipulation and fragmentation, but I think the act itself is healthy. Colombia needs to recuperate non-violent marches as a means of expression and protest, and I hope that it continues, and the 4th Feb march was not just a flash in the pan.

Glad to see there will be a march against the paras. Hopefully someday they will have one single march denouncing all armed groups that utilize terror against civilians.
