What qualification are needed for Residency

I am living in Colombia on a medical visa that has to be renewed every 12 months. Does anyone know for sure how many years I have to renew it before I can obtain a resident card? I have heard that after 3 years that one quilifies for residency. Is this true for I cannot find it in writing on the web?

The deputy consul in the Chicago embassy told me that I have to hold a temporary VISA for 5 years before I can apply for a permanent one.

What's a "medical visa"? Never heard of that and how did the topic change to marriage visa?. Anyway my understanding is after five years of annual renewals of the Temporal TS visa you are then issued visas good for five years before renewal is required. However a lady at D.A.S. told me "maybe" so who knows. Apparently it takes a long long time the reach resident status. If anyone has more solid info I'd like to hear it. I go in for my fifth Temporal TS this year.

tomtom33 The 3 years is a marraige visa (although I thought it was only two years).

Business visas etc are 5 years.

Sorry tomtom33, you will have to wait a bit longer, unless you want to get married of course.

No matrimonio para mi. Although I did get an E-mail today from a young lady in CTG who asked me to greet her mother-in-law(my mother).

Right now there is a difference of opinion between my attorneys in Bogota and the Chicago deputy consul. I have no idea what to believe. But I know Hunter, and his credibility with me is high.

Hey Vic, liked your homepage. One of the ladies in my image gallery, Dayana, is from Bucaramanga. She almost got me down there to meet her mother.
