What makes a good Motel? (in Medellin)

Obviously, this is not for me, but my 'friend' wants to know.

Is one motel basically the same as the next?

What is the most ridiculously extravagant motel in Medellin?

Does anybody have any experience with the following motels?

Los Chalets
Motel Siesta
Motivos
Punto Cero
Unicornio

I do not know, never tried one. Ask Ray, he uses them a lot with his underage prepagos.

Motel, In my language, in Paisa Medellin, Motel sounds like a place to rent for few hours.

there are countless "Motels" where men meet their lovers at lunch time, go back to work and then home to their wives.

Don`t listen to me because I am just from Medellin, is like if I call a girl "GRILLA" in MEDELLIN, COLOMBIA, in Paisa lingo it means: "VERY YOUNG GIRL" mostly not very educated, low strato, don`t know if they are also, prostitutes, not that I know.

Sorry, I know it is not what is asked here, it is just that that word `Motel`does not have a good sound in my city.

Pelada, Peladita, sardina= very young girl, a teenager, Grilla is the same but not very classy, and kind of poor. You HAVE TO be from Colombia to know the difference.

Medellin Traveler says on Apr 6, 2008, 20:02:

I've heard paisas refer to other well-to-do paisas as peladas, which I understood to be an insult, mostly because they were jealous of the other paisitas.

Grilla is more ghetto, and sardina is pretty much used to refer to all young girls, no?

An upscale motel might offer you

- hot tub
- steam room
- nice refurbished decor (they are usually kind of generic looking, though)
- outdoor courtyard
- mirrors
- little dance floor with groovy coloured lighting
- sex chair (http://www.vipsmotel.com.br/freedom/freedom.html)
- TV with porno, sound system
- 24 hour room service (food, drinks, whatever)

There are lots in Medellin. If you flip through the coupons at the front of the Yellow Pages, you'll find motel coupons and may be able to pick out the more flashy ones.

Occasionally you can find something out of the ordinary. Tu y Yo in Manizales has swings, for example.

You can also get larger spaces for a small group, if you like. Say if you're a group of two couples or three couples, there's a common area to hang out and a couple of regular bedrooms attached.

que nota!

Theres Penthouse too.

One thing I dont like in Punto Cero is you have to call the "front desk" to get the hot tub going. If you have the amenity, let me use it.

Funny and true story: A bunch of years back a friend was visiting Medellin and I took a date out and she brought a friend for him. We went out and all had a really good time so at like 3am we suggested a motel and they totally were into it. Its a short drive from La Clarita to Punto Cero and we got 2 suites side by side. After taking care of business they called our room asking if we were ready to leave, so I called the front desk and asked for the bill. It was the $30k special they run and gladly paid it. We met in the carport and got in my car. We get to the exit and that ominous black window. At that point my friend says "where do we pay?" simultaneously as the gate opens. I screech the tires and fly outta there hoping no ninja mafiosos tracked us down as he never paid for his suite. Homer simpson style 2 for 1 special so he bought the final bottle of rum of the fun night with the unforseen savings.

jorgegdiaz says on Apr 7, 2008, 05:40:

I have to take the following picture picture in a motel in Bucaramanga (I think is La Granjita). It goes something like this, but the last 2 lines are VERY TRUE:

Price list:
Gaseosa ...$2000
Cerveza..... $2500
Media de Aguardiente: ... $20000

Habitaciones:
Sencilla, 3 horas .... $25000
Sencilla Jacuzzi......$30000
2 horas adicionales $15000
Recargo por persona adicional....$15000
Recargo por 4 o mas personas ... $ 50000 !!

Man with hole in pocket feel cocky all day.

Robert Jorge says on Apr 7, 2008, 06:37:

I have never been to Medellin, so I can't promise that it is "the best". (It could suck, I don't know) But you might look into the Intercontinental. I have stayed at the Intercontinental Tequendama in Bogota, and it was about as fancy as you get. Government types, dignitaries, CEO types, and probably celebrities walking around. The guys who take care of your luggage and hail taxis are dressed in those 150 year old looking tuxedo jackets with tails and top hats. Anyway, if it is the same in Medellin, it could be one of the fancier places there.

Just a loco hanging out until 5am. I have been there probably about 20 times since 2002. And it is totally changed and a lot less seedy now. Even on the verge of glam in the discoteca. They had the one shootout in there like 10 years ago and it cant shake the bad rap. You get frisked like 3 times b4 you can get in there. The cops come in almost every night and frisk everyone down as well. Security always in the bathrooms. I usually park accross the street in front of those small industrial businesses for an easier entry/exit. Honestly I usually at least get a phone number from some girl while there. A lot less pre-pagos in there than a couple of years back as well.

MitchAlvarez says on Apr 7, 2008, 19:02:

i was there 3 weeks ago. trust me the last shootout was not 10 years ago. i went with some crazy guys if you know what i mean or else i wouldnt have gone. trust me .... you must have some good friends who know people if you think its really safe to go in there. jaja

its all good.......... other then that safety issue its a lot of fun.
