Id say my favourite city is Bogota. There is nothing particularly awesome when it comes to places or restaurants but like in any other big city, the best thing is that you get to meet people from other cities; Lots of paisas, calenos, and costenos...you get miniversions of what those other cities must me like. I love that about Bogota...it doesnt have a lot of hardcore Bogotanos :P

I have only been to barranquilla, Cartagena, Santa marta and bogota. I liked Bogota the most but it does have that big city feel and the people seemed to be not as openly friendly. Cartagena is nice and I would like to go to medellin. Since I am an avid biker man, I was totally thrilled to visit the Harley Davidson shop in bogota and i bet that I am one of the few American men who has a Harley Davidson shirt from bogota. The wording on the shirt says, "Harley Davidson de Bogota, We Live Dangerously"

So far, Bogotá is my favourite. I like the climate and the hustle & bustle. There are people from all the other Colombian cities in Bogotá, so you are able to talk to a wide variety of people. I also like the countryside around Bogotá, it reminds me a bit of the UK in some areas.

Beautiful Women I have always heard that the most beautiful
women are in Cali, but there are a lot of
ugly ones there too. I heard this back in
the early 1960's (1961 to 1964) and again in
2001 to 2004.

IMOP, I think you can find them where ever
you go in Colombia.

I got lots of friends here from Latin countries; forget gringos most have no idea where Colombia is. Anyway, all my Latin friends only recognize one city in Colombia outside Bogotá for obvious reasons, is the capital, and that city is Barranquilla. Barranquilla and Cartagena are the most mentioned cities in all Puerto Rican salsa and merengue songs, even “Cali Pachanguero mentions Barranquilla. Medellin only gained some recognition after Pablo Escobar hit the scene, and Cali with Grupo Niche but still no one knows where the hell Cali is, including my ignorant ass. Why is Barranquilla so damn popular, you ask? Because this is were most Caribbean Latin bands come to compete in the “festival de orquestas held during carnaval. Another thing, we got Cartagena and Santa Marta just a stone throw away. Granted, we don’t have freaking old museums or those damn old churches that people love so much, but we got something better, lots of freaking bars and loud music, and no one could out dance a costeño, yours truly included. Now beat that!!
Let me just add that Shakira, Gabo, Sofia Vergara, Carlos Vive, Renteria, and others are all full costeños, recognized all over the world.
damn, i never heard Bogota mentioned in a popular song.

Everyone always leaves out the Los Cedros toll booth on the road out of Monteria with the vendors and the people who have nothing else to do other than hang out at the toll booth. It's a must-see in my idiotic opinion.

Cali Hands Down I have been to Cali, Palmira, Buga, Calima, Buenaventura, Armenia, Salento, Medellin, Santa Martha. They are all great but for the hotest most beautiful women I have seen, it is Cali. And that is saying somethingis because where I live we have beautful women in Miami.

Depends on the type of woman that you like. Some like the Calenas but I wouldn't get up from my sofa to look at one. Of course that's because my Paisa is on the sofa next to me.

Elmo,

Bogota is actually mentioned in a song by the Cure. And if you don't know where Cali is, well, just listen to the song that goes, "del puente para acá Juanchito, del puente para allá esta Cali." Even venezuelan salsa legend Oscar de Leon sang a song about Cali!

Coro 2

Que todo, que todo, que todo que.

Coro 3

Que todo el mundo te cante,
que todo el mundo te mime,
celoso estoy pa' que mires,
no me voy más ni por miles.

Pregones

Permita que me arrepienta oh
mi hermosa cenicienta,
de rodillas mi presencia
si mi ausencia fue tu afrenta.

Un clásico en el Pascual,
adornado de mujeres sin par,
América y Cali a ganar,
aquí no se puede empatar.

Que noches, que noches tan bonitas,
Siloé en sus callesitas,
al fondo mi valle en risa
¡ay! todito se divisa.

A millas siento tu aroma,
cualquiera justo razona,
que Cali es Cali señoras, señores
lo demás es loma.

Cheers,
Desi

Medellin es la Chimba! Para mi Medellin es lo mejor! Por Navidad nothing compares to it!
Bogota is too big, and everything is too far. Unless you just hang out in North Bogota and thats all. In Medellin you can go to many diffrent places in a short amount of time.

que le pasa Jaramillo! Paisa,

I'm not saying anything bad about Medllin, except that I thought it was boring. That is simply an opinion, my opinion, and anyone can disagree with me (why is it that in Colombia we have to insult people who disagree with us?). Paisas have always been of two minds with repect to Medallo, and many of us wanted to get out asap. That's why you can find us selling camels in cairo, or cars in Houston, or whatever (you will not find any pastusos or cartageneros).

para nada lo estoy isultando Tenés razón Paisa! No offense taken.

Medellin (and especially the rest of Antioquia la grande!) is, in many ways, the most interesting place in Colombia. I was just plying a bit with the idea that sometimes we do not see what we have. We see gringos finding themselves in Medellin, and paisas doing the same in New York. Sometimes we have to go away to find out about our own place, and Paisas have alway had a lust for wandering. It is a good idea for a Gringo to see Medallo, and for paisas to see something else. Gracias Paisa.
