what is the procedure for getting married in a civil ceremony and then getting her a permanent entry visa for canada?

well, i want to get my girlfriend into canada. it seems this means that a) we must get married in colombia, in a civil ceremony. so what are the hoops for, a) getting married, and then b)getting her a visa to come live here?

ben dar don dat... the hoops are proper documents officially translated ...apostiiled (by apropriate embassys)...and noterized....contact cannada immigration and a colombia consulate in canada and ask for a list of the required documents to make the wedding legal in canada and colombia...
you will need..all of theses documents translated and apostiled and noterized...your spouse will need documents done as well...yes it is a pain in the ass but nessecary if you want a legal marraige..full size original birth certificate....passport...divorce certificate if previously married...anouther document..forget the name that certifies your are single etc...once you have all documents in order for both of you ...you have 90 days to get married...after that they will consider the documents expired and you can start the process all over again(no fun)...
from there you go to canada immigrations website and print off all the documents and info you will need for a pr visa for your wife..(using a lawyer will not make it any faster...app are processed in the order recieved regardless of wether or not you waste your money on a lawyer...and its not nessecary...paper work is exactly the same with or without a lawyer..just fill in the blanks...but make sure all are correct...then get your lady her medical...police certificates etc and pay the fee,s and send it out....actual average processing times are listed on canada immigrations website....anywhere for 8 months to 15 months....having everything in the package and correct is the only thing that might help speed it up...but be prepared to wait...they wont even look at it in bogota till about 4 or 5 months after they recieve it....the sponsorship documents if all are correct will take two months in canada to be approved then the rest of the paper if correct( pr visa app)gets forwarded to bogota where the real wait begins...hope this helps
