What is the deal with deleted threads?

In the future, it would be nice to get a message from the moderators explaining why a thread was deleted. Isn´t there a way to lock a thread so nobody else can post, but keep the thread intact?

I really used to like posting here, but I feel as if my time might be better spent elsewhere.

There are not huge amounts of posters that are currently living down here right now...the thread that was started last night (about prostitution and college students) might not have been the most positive one for Colombia, but it (and bufalo specifically) raised some good points.

I personally cannot imagine raising a child here for more than a few years...one reason being the fact that I teach at an exclusive private school and would not my child to start taking on some of the characteristics I see in many students. OTOH, public schools...well, they are comparable to some of the urban public schools in the US, but not sure I would want to send my kid there, either.

For some reason, these threads always degenerate into name-calling and back-and-forth exchanges...and prostitution is an issue, because if you are a gringo, you cannot escape from it being offered to you. That doesn´t mean you have to frequent a prostitute...it´s just a sad fact that this is the condition of many women around the world, and it is even sadder in countries where college educated (even MA degreed) women feel they have no better options than this. Of course, there are ALWAYS alternatives, but Colombia won´t be a truly great country until these viable opportunities exist, jobs that pay at least $10-15 mil per hour instead of $3-5.

Okay, well that is my fault then. Maybe it is better to close our eyes and pretend it doesn´t exist, lol. I wonder how popular this board would be if women could never be discussed...it would be an interesting experiment IMO. Probably not very profitable for getting page views and pricing google.com partnerships.

And maybe there would not be so many sex tourists here if prepagos cost the price of a plane ticket per hour instead of the cost for a typical movie...without the popcorn, medium drinks and obligatory pre-movie dinner, lol.

Everything in life ultimately comes down to economics...whether you spell it out in black-and-white or refuse to talk about it entirely, it´s a fact of life. Maybe they should force everyone who comes down here to spend a day in Barrio Nelson Mandela in Cartagena before they could go to their cushy hotel rooms, so they would at least think twice about what they were doing. Of course, it would not stop their behavior...but it might force them to think about the human and family side of the equation that is never considered in these transactions for various reasons.

if you've been reading this board for a while.. you'll see that sex, women, prostitution is talked about on a regular basis, half the threads got deleted after couple of days(there fun while they last).

As for the economic pricing theory that it cost more for 1hr prepago than a plane ticket.. is wrong. While there are SOME gals that can charge $150k or more/hr, the vast majority is lot cheaper. Also, armenia/pereia is not exactly the sex tourist cities of COL, that would be CTG, Cali, & BOG. As for being a gringo in COL regarding prostitution, if you want it, it's EASILY available, if you dont want it, it's EASILY ignored.

I would like to thank the moderators for deleting the garbage links and posts from this site. Personally, the discussions of prostitution and sex that are posted often on this site are nothing more than the reflection of the quality of the posters.

As I have said many times I just don't know where you find these women in Colombia but they certainly don't represent any substantial portion of Colombia's female population.

Many of the mid 20s posters that visit Colombia talk (only) about finding a wife during the day but when the evening comes around they are looking for a prostitute. No wonder they talk about the only women they can find (prositutes) because the quality women aren't interested.

No cas, I was saying there wouldn´t be such a problem if the cost HERE was equal to the cost of the Bogota to Miami flight.

Yes, it is MUCH MUCH lower than what you have mentioned, from everyone I have spoken with, both directly and indirectly....even in cities like Cartagena, where I lived for three weeks in June (Barrio Manga).

I forgot to mention the $10-15 mil charge per hour for the motel (definitely not HOTEL) room.

That these prices exist in the world is embarrassing...that it is actually considered to be really good money and a net ¨win¨ on the cost-benefit scale is even worse as far as the decision-making process to get involved in this occupation.

I don´t know if you have spent too much time down here or not, but there´s no magical elixir or truth serum you can hand out to find motivations here.

I have had plenty of amigas con derechos, but I never have sex with someone I do not see myself being with in the future and possibly falling in love. I do not keep track of numbers or notches on the belt or whatever you want to call it.

I have spent half my six months down here with the same girl, and had a great time, and we never had sex once...lol...I am sure there will be many who will say I was taken advantage of for not ¨doing it¨ with her, that I should have dumped her to the curb and gone on to the next hottie. In all seriousness, I respected her decision...and I am the one who wanted to wait until after I came back from Christmas-New Year, because it would be stupid to get serious and then turn around and spend a vacation in Hawaii with your ex after having sex the week before leaving. As it turned out, it was the right decision for both of us, since she (the Colombian woman) is now living in Venezuela with her family and that would have been the end of the relationship EVEN had we experienced the greatest night in the history of the world. I guess the fact she was a massage therapist did NOT hurt.

I am sure many of the men looking for sex are pretty lonely...maybe they want to increase their confidence and go back to the US thinking they still ¨have it.¨ The more time I spend down here, the more cynical I get about the motivations of anyone that wants to be with me, simply because I make really good money for where I live, I am a gringo and I have blue eyes. That alone should not make me the ¨catch of the day,¨ but it is the reality down here.

Now if everyone posting here had given up all their money and joined the Missionaries of Charity (or whatever the male equivalent is) and promoted to every woman they met that they were absolutely broke and never wanted to return to the US in their lifetime and the woman still wanted to be with them, then that would be another thing. But you do not hear of many stories like that, lol.

Are we all Prostitutes? I know a gentleman here around 60, who doesn't have much money and he will tell you he is never going back to the USA. He is dating 2 prepago ladies for about 6 months now and he loves them both. They go bowling, bingo and dancing. They go to lunch. The affection he receives is very real and he feels very alive. He is handsome and very fit going to the gym every day but he cannot remember when the last time a young lady was interested in him in the states. Here he gets chatted up everywhere he goes. He feels very very alive. It is a sad thought that maybe everyone here is a gold-digger. Then again maybe we are all prostitutes in some fashon. What a perfect world it would be if we could just enjoy sex for pleasure without and jealousy or greed or thinking about your bills getting in the way.

I met quite a few Colombian men in Colombia that used to live in the U.S. What i noticed about them was, they enjoyed the prostitutes more than the average Colombiano. They probably had trouble getting laid and finding prostitutes in the U.S. so now, they appreciate how easy it is to get laid in Colombia.

Thanks GringoD I really believe in it :))

My work in Medellin is all about living out your fantasies. But having said that and seeing the direction that the post are going now I fear for the deletion of this post. Maybe if we could just see the pleasure industry in a different light. See that we are so fortunate to know where (Colombia in general) such a diverse and robust pleasure industry exists. Where your pleasuremate(s) know just what kind of teasing you need and have no fear in garnering pleasure for themselves along the way. If we truely thought about the all phases of the sex industry in this manner, wrote about it as so, then our posts wouldn't be deleted. It would be the same as writing about ice cream, or whip cream, yum yum. We would hold our sexual pleasuremate(s) in high esteem and put an end to their explotation. If we could all just orgy without jealousy we could revolutionize the indusry and recognize it as a pleasure deriving service and finally live without fear that our thread would be deleted.

Viewpoint... "Personally, the discussions of prostitution and sex that are posted often on this site are nothing more than the reflection of the quality of the posters.... As I have said many times I just don't know where you find these women in Colombia..."

That quote says far more about your Puritanical hang-ups than it does about our talking about sex and prostitution.

As for the second part... you can find them everywhere... maybe you should get out more often.

Albatross You can rest assured that I get out plenty but I think that I spend my time with quality people and not prostitutes. I guess I have more on my brain than sex and prostitutes. The un-intelligent continual posting of garbage on this site is what runs off the Colombian posters and other people who come to PBH for intelligent exchange of information about Colombia other than sex and prostitution.

By now we all know who on the website amoung the posters is an expert on prostitution and sex and I am proud to not be counted as one of them.

"Quality" Women Viewpoint threw the phase "quality" women out as if somehow there is a class of women who are above the male tourists that go to Colombia and will therefore have nothing to do with us.

First of all, if a guy is only in the country for a few days or a weeks, he will have a hard time finding a "quality" woman. It's even more difficult if the guy speaks less than fluent Spanish, has no friends there or if she has a Novio. There are even more difficulties if the guy, not being a Latino, is more quite and reserved than she is used to or when he can't dance like a Latino or tell a good joke in Spanish.

However, NONE of the above is ANY reflection on either the "quality" of the man or the women. I can't speak for all travellers, but there is certainly no woman in Colombia who is too good for me.

. It’s true that ignorance abounds here at PBH, but it’s ridiculous, to assume that anyone would visit Colombia just for sex. (Although I’m sure it does happen) Colombia is an extremely poor destination for sex, there are literally dozens of countries that are far better (and infinitely safer) for a sex tourist... the industry simply does not exist in Colombia (Cartegena is perhaps the lone exception). There are the dating / marriage agencies, but I have no experience with them, so I cannot comment.

I would assume (again, I cannot speak for all) that most of us men go to Colombia for other reasons, but if we meet a good-looking girl who is willing company, then all the better.

And as far as the money goes... I spend $40 once or twice a week just to fill up my gas tank so that I can go to work... I spend hundreds of dollars a month for utilities and over a thousand dollars a month for my mortgage... I’m supposed to worry about a spending thirty or forty dollars on a Colombiana ?

Maybe you “quality guys are just too worried about your money.

Albatross Yes the quality women in Colombia are a class of women who are above the foreign sex tourists coming to Colombia seeking prostitutes for their personal sexual gradification.

Fortunately, the sex tourists are only a small fraction of the foreign tourists that visit Colombia for its other redeeming qualities.

I fail to understand why a foreign person would travel thousands of miles to a foreign country in which he speaks a different language to seek out a prostitute for sex when he could have the same in his own home country without all the inconvience.

The quality women are the easiest to meet as you are surrounded by them from the time you exit the airplane after landing in Colombia until you re=board the airplane to leave Colombia.

Finding a postitute by a foreign person takes effort and assistance as they are few in number compared to the total population.

To say that it is not a reality of life in Colombia is being oblivious to reality.

There is no way of measuring exact statistics, but Colombia has to be number 1 in South America right now for sex tourism, because Venezuela is considered just as, if not more, dangerous, due to the Chavez Regime. Colombia is also one of the countries closest to N.America on the continent, especially reachable for those in Florida or Texas. I do not know, Brazil might be number one due to sheer population and size, and it is probably safer. Can´t make a definitive comment, as I haven´t had the opportunity to make it over there yet. I probably will be going to the Amazonas-Leticia or Macchu Picchu for Semana Santa.

I suppose Costa Rica is more popular as well, because it is seen as safer and more tourist-friendly, with many Americans retiring there due to the fact they can afford houses 2-4 times bigger than in the US, and food is much cheaper.

The Philippines was always popular because there was a certain degree of English fluency, and the plethora of American military bases, which are obviously no longer so prevalent...I guess that is where the whole mail-order bride thing started in the first place.

Eastern Europe (countries like the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine, Russia) enjoyed, and still enjoy, popularity, but they are becoming much more expensive, are often dangerous for foreigners (especially Ukraine) and require a trip of a much longer distance, and higher cost flights.

Also due to sheer population, you will probably see more of an explosion in China and India, due to size and poverty issues, as the world beomes more globalized. I do not know if India will ever be AS popular, as many Europeans and Americans do not prefer, as a GENERALIZATION, darker-skinned women.

There is always Thailand, Vietnam, Mexico, Amsterdam...those are probably up there in terms of destinations, Mexico due to proximity more than anything else. I think the most interesting areas are those where there is a strong Islamic presence....Malaysia, Indonesia and the Middle East. Once again, dangerous areas (potentially) for gringos.

The country that has trafficked in the most women, per capita, is actually Israel. Hundreds of women have been kidnapped from Eastern Europe and Russia-Ukraine and forced into virtual slavery there. Spain and Italy are other popular end-points for the human trafficking trade.
