What is Piedad Córdoba thinking?

I don´t get why all the hoopla with dragging Chavez into the picture and Córdaba running around the US. Does she really think the FARC can be distracted from their demand for Florida and Pradera on the outskirts of Cali? Or alternatively that the Colombia govt. will permit the FARC to militarily occupy those towns in order to fascilitate their drug trade and resupply routes? This whole thing seems like yet another excersize in futility.

I really don't like that woman. She was on our flight from Bogotá-Miami when we got back to the States back in October and was a total pompous bitch!

Cassini, how long does it take you between seeing an ass and recognizing it? And does it tax your resources?

It is almost amusing to hear that the FARC would actually need to fascilitate their drug trade and resupply routes. They have mobility that is just as good as the Military behind the scenes. What is amusing to me is to read that someone actually occupies Florida and Pradera because the Colombian State does not control that area. \

Think about it like this, In Vietnam the South Vietnames Government (a.k.a. the U.S.)controlled the major cities but was far from controlling the country.

Smile if you are a thinker!

cali373: The roots of that kind of comparison to Vietnam are flawed though, considering that there was actually an entirely separate *country* known as North Vietnam in existence at the time, just that it and its Southern counterpart had been previously united.

One country was split into two essentially warring states, each with their own cities and capitals, it wasn't just a matter of "controlling the cities but not controlling the countryside" (and, to be fair, the different South Vietnamese governments were not just "a.k.a. the U.S.", even at their worst). People all too often talk about the Vietnam War without remembering the details. It wasn't just a matter of "guerrillas vs. a government" (in fact, at the end of the actual War, the guerrillas themselves were in pretty bad shape, while the NVA wasn't).

So I can't agree with your example (and that's without talking about all the other applicable differences, historical and otherwise).

And by the way, it's curious to hear you say that the Colombian state does not control Florida and Pradera, when elections have been held in each municipalty and even FARC themselves have previously *complained* about the military and police increasing their presence in and around the area, which would also imply that their mobility and security isn't exactly unimpeded. All that kind of runs against your statement.

This doesn't mean that there aren't plenty of rural areas where the state does not have control, but the Vietnam comparison still doesn't work, at the national level and especially in this particular case.

Piedad looks NASTY in the photos below. She's wearing a T-shirt that's way too small and it accentuates her big gut and her fat arms. She's also rearranged her eyebrows into an unnatural angle and her face looks tight, like Joan Rivers. The beret is a poor fashion choice, too. It looks like the FARC beret with the FARC pin/patch removed. This woman has no self-respect.

After the pictures of her hugging FARC Sonia in a Texas prison and whoever the FARC guys are in these photos, I imagine the bill for her government bodyguards is going to go up.

Her choice of pictures is quite questionable. The majority of Colombians aren't her fans, but she has enough to stay in the Senate and remain in the leadership of the Liberal party.

Yeah, she really allowed herself to be used. Shake hands as a gesture of good faith and take a photo, but leave it at that. The roses, the FARC beret and standing with arms around each other -- demasiado!
