PBH / colombia (travelguide, pictures) / post |
I've read several times about "La perla de otun" and "Otun Lagoon." I've asked my colombiana, my spanish speaking friend, looked up the word in my translator and paperback dictionary, and even done a search on this website. What does "otun" mean in english?

Simon says on Apr 19, 2007, 10:51: It's the name of a river that runs through the city of Pereira. 'La Perla del Otún' is one of the city's nicknames. HERE'S SIMON!!!! 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

kat1 (Moderator) says on Apr 19, 2007, 13:38: jajaj Robert jorje, nope it doesn't have a translation, that is why i have the feeling it might be the meaning have to do something with the indians that inhabited the area. maybe they call otun, the shinning of the river or the moon or the sun who knows, or maybe they used to call the atun, otun, robert you may be close ;) engage brain before opening mouth 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Robert Jorge says on Apr 19, 2007, 18:11: Don't want to hijack, so I won't bring it up again unless Elmo graces me with an answer. Kat, these guys who were yelling this back and forth and taught me to say it were from the Valledupar area. One actually played baseball for the Minnesota Twins way back in the late 70s. I can't remember his name ... but can find out. They all play softball in a men's league and represent Granada (Meta) of all places. I met them after their game in Villavo at the bar across the street from the sports stadium. The ex pro player was able to speak a little English, but he couldn't articulate a translation for moneque burro. --"I believe in making the world safe for our children.
