What happens at Miami w/ CR-1 visa?

Thanks to God and you on this site who helped guide me through this process, my wife received her CR-1 visa Dec. 23rd 2005!!!!

I tried to search for posts about the actual entering the US port w/ the visa to see what details I can pass on to my wife who will be coming through Miami later this month. What were your experiences like? Thanks! -jt

Worry about getting out My wife had her CR-1 interview on the 23rd as well. She had to fly back to Bogota from Cali on the 27th to get it. (Me no happy happy)

Anyway, don't worry about getting into the US worry about getting out of Colombia. My wife had to postpone twice...but it is mainly due to our 1 month old son. My wife was denied at the airport the first time because our son did not have both passports...he only had an american passport. We then had to cancel again because the country requires a notorized letter from me giving permission for him to leave the country. Okay, no problem, I'll fax it. No, it must be a signed document from the Colombian Consulate...so off I go for a 4 hour drive to the nearest consulate in Los Angeles. Before I go the consulate promises to fax the document to DAS in Cali that day...great, but two days later it still hadn't arrived and they say they will not accept a faxed copy from me. Okay, I'll mail it, but it is not gauranteed until Wednesday. Therefore, we cancel again...still in fear that they will find another reason not to let me wife leave.

If it is just your wife, you'll probably have no problems. But just make sure before leaving.

If she is connecting in Miami she should make sure that she allows a good 3 hours between flights. It's not that it takes a long time but if a bunch of flights arrive at the same time they get backed up and you may end up waiting an hour or so. After she goes through the initial immigration line she will be sent to another room where she will be processed by a CBP officer. Believe it or not, they do not all speak Spanish. I had to translate between him and my wife. I could have been telling him anything! They make sure that your baggage is held for you and once she's got the stamp in her passport she's good to go. The green card and SSN come in the mail a few weeks later.

Disclaimer: any comment I make is inane and is not to be taken seriously, and is so patently ridiculous that no one should take it seriously, even as an insult.

So sorry to hear about all that trouble bbattiste. Just when you should all be relaxed and celebrating, all that happens. We also didnt want to spend Christmas in Bogota nor fly back to get the visa on the following tuesday 27th, so we notarized a letter giving permission to someone to pick it up for us. Then they sent it with Deprisa overnight to Cartagena. Worked out great. I won't be travelling with her when she enters the US, so I hope the CBP officer speaks spanish.

Anybody know of a way to find out her SS # before the card comes? So I can sign her up for college courses before registration is over?? Thanks

JT
