goosekirk says on Apr 14, 2006, 01:05: OK So there's crime in Podunk, Missouri. There's crime in Colombia. If we can somehow quantify exactly 'how dangerous' each is in relation to the other, then how would that get me safely home from the bar? Would this information help me understand how to go out and take pictures on the street 'safely?' Will this give me some ideas about how to behave if I get stopped by an unknown armed group at a checkpoint?

. says on Apr 14, 2006, 03:24: That's the point I want to make, where ever in the world you are there will be always bad people, bad people are spread through the world as an example; FARC, Alqueada, AUC, Narcotraficants, George Bush, American Militars, pedophilics, robbers, rapers, drogadicts etc, etc etc. there is not point to live a frightened life, we are normal people who want to go to work, enjoy with our families and have a nice day with some good friends, that's all. Complaining about Colombia, USA, Guantanamo or Irak will not make our life safer. I can carry on with a machine gun but this is not going to make me safer, actually it will endanger my life. I love my life and I will enjoy every single moment of it, where ever I am, The bronx of new york, Queens, Cauca, New York down town. The day is the day when something wrong is going to happen, no one knows which day it is. Enjoy the world and thank to God you were not born in Irak, or Somalia or Congo or in the Colombia country side. We re very lucky, and I will keep enjoying what God gives me, bad or good.

nat718 says on Apr 14, 2006, 06:24: It is perfectly reasonable of me to think that my personal safety is more at risk in Colombia than in the US. No amount of comparing/contrasting/listing crime will change that.

Miguel_Clavo says on Apr 14, 2006, 10:08: Relatively Speaking, its only unsafe if you are/were the victim. The idea of debating which country is more dangerous is a waste of time....GIB was only offering up his persective of the level of safety in the area he lives...i doubt that it was a condemnation of the Colombian people... caslug says on Apr 14, 2006, 11:43: COL is pretty safe.. IF you're aware of your surrounding and now the local situation, which most locals do. BUT foreigners have a bit more to worry about because a) we stand out, b) we dont ALWAYS know what's going on w/ local situation, & c) we dont speak the local lingo and know the local cutlure, hence we can potentially miss warning signs. Of course a foreigner that moves to US will have this same problem, but to a lesser degree.

huskie says on Apr 14, 2006, 19:32: JPBadillo You must have a lot of time in your hands, nothing else to do, but criticize everything about the US....Do you EVER read or listen to the news about all the killings and mass murders in Colombia? The abuse that goes on with children, including incest, rape, beatings, burnings and the like? Maybe you should do a bit of research about the horrific things and the crime which is rampant in Colombia and even in the UK, and post it here as you did about the US. juanalejo says on Apr 14, 2006, 21:03: Huskie There is no need for JP to do that, there are plenty of US people whose only purpose in this site is to do exactly that. What a surprise now when one Colombian finally gets fed up with all the concentration on the bad in Colombia and shows the bad in the native country where those who complain all day long in here come from. But then again now there is indignation, how surprising.

. says on Apr 15, 2006, 00:02: Well Yankees I am really fed up of Yankees comments in this site and in every place I visit. The quantity of paedophilic USA have is alarming, some time I think that Yankees are born to be a bunch of drogadicts and paedophiles. Obviously for all of you, USA is he Eden garden that obviously is not like that at all, USA is a society with out family values in which a dude wakes up one day and kill all his family. Yankees are happy going to developing and third word countries (may be hiding?) to look for underage children then try to show something than they will never have, honestly and respect for the rest world (United State was the only country who did not sign in the Tokyo convention). The rape figures in USA are three times higher than Colombia per 1000 inhabitants, children rapes are four times higher than in Colombia per 1000 inhabitants. We have an internal conflict, so if there is a mass murder is because has been done by terrorists. How terrify I was when I heard that in the United States a school boy one day decides to buy a machine gun, take it to the college and open fire on who ever pass by in front of him, that will never happen in Colombia (mass murder by school boys!)!, the bad job in Colombia is done by terrorists, narcotraficants and some street robbers. In contrast, in United States normal people who “want to have a change do the bad job. So dudes, judge yourself first then judge the rest of the world. Why do not you behave correctly as European people do? Or English people do? Or Asian people do? They are the people who really we want in Colombia, people who come, shut up and enjoy and not a bunch of Yankees complaining about everything. Come back to your Eden Garden and do not show up here again.

goosekirk says on Apr 15, 2006, 02:24: Man Now I almost feel guilty about being a drogadict, paedophile and teenage mass murderer. Wish we'd signed that Tokyo whatever so I could feel better about myself. Good point, though... all this complaining has really been cutting into my raping and family-killing time. I hardly even have a chance to squeeze in a good kitten-strangling anymore!
