What day is the election? When is the city closed down?

What day or days will all the discos and restarants closed down in Bogota for the election????????????

I went down before and it was a disater, all taxis and discos were not working. And all taxis were giving rides to people to vote and the govt was paying the taxi drivers, the whole city was shut down on election day.
The day before sucked also.

The City is Not "Closed Down"... as you put it. Ley Seco will be in place from 6p.m. on the friday before the election until 6 a.m the following Monday-May 27-May 29. Actual voting will be Sunday, May 28. In fact lots of people out and about and many street vendors (lots of military/police presence.) Any way, lots of the city closes on Sunday anyway.

I remember Friday they stop selling liquor , so Friday and Saturday are dead as all the discos are closed. Many restarrant closed or empty for the same reason.
n Sunday it is impossible to get a cab as the taxi drivers do not work, or the ones that work have been allocated to the govt to drive poor people to the vote polls.

Are you sure the selling of alcohol doesn't stop at midnight on Thursday night? That's what my students told me, at least.

Yes Friday , Sat and Sunday.
I was the worst 3 days of a vacation I've ever had.
And you are basically in house arrest on Sunday, as you could not get a cab, at least in Cali that day 4 years ago.
But everyone is walking in the streets that day, street vendors have a heyday selling ice cream etc....
The discos were all closed Friday and Saturday.

"House Arrest" That is exactly what it is. I don't where you are now, but you should
ALWAYS find out if there are any elections. I have "friends" in Colombia
whom are suppose to tell me about elections etc. but they alway fail to
do so. Do your homework before you leave from wherever you are. I experienced
this twice. It was the two worst visits (I've had many) I've ever had
in Colombia. Those trips are embedded in my memory never to be forgotten.

"Semana Santa" in Cali is a bad time to there at that time. The week
leading up to Easter Sunday is a week you don't want to be there.
