As my son has lived most of his life in the UK (he is 6) he was bought up with the idea of Father Christmas bringing his presents when he is asleep on the night of 24th Dec. As we will be in Colombia this year he reasons that Father Christmas will still visit us in the UK and leave presents if we write and let him know beforehand. However, he was worried as he thought if he saw the beds were empty he might not leave anything so he has asked his grandparents to sleep in them while we are away to get over this problem!. Then he said 'So the white Father Christmas will come to England and the black one to Colombia.' OK, I said.Logical for him - mum is white and English, Dad is black and Colombian! In his letter to Father Christmas he wrote (with no prompting from anyone)'Dear Father Christmas, I love you- please visit the children in Colombia because I don't want them not to get any toys.'
Ah, children - don't you just love em? (well probably some of you don't, but you know what I mean!)

kalder says on Dec 14, 2006, 08:59: Santa Claus I've told my daughter that 'Santa Claus' is actually a company of jolly old gift-givers. The head one stays in the North Pole handling the letters, supervising the elves, organising the distribution network etc. And a team of under-Santas (as it were) are responsible for turning up at the world's bed ends on the 24th. This helps explain the multiple sightings (at different shopping centres, different charitable events etc) of Saint Nick over the holiday period. "kalder- have you ever had a woman?"--Sam Salmon |

larumberainglesa says on Dec 15, 2006, 03:13: That's good! May have to revise my explanation. The last Santa we saw was terrible, beard falling off, too skinny, no ho-ho hoing at all and my son didn't say anything. I think he just thought he was some old guy dressed up (just what he was). Anyway he wasn't fooled and I didn't even try to convince him otherwise, it was so obvious! Happy Christmas! - we are flying tonight via Toronto so hoping to see a bit of snow out of the window there as there's none here in the UK!
