What are the business opportunities in the film/broadcast TV industry in Colombia?

Hi

I've been thinking about this move for some time but I don't know what the opportunities are like. If someone has any idea or is familliar with this industry in Colombia. Any help or insights would be greatly appreciated.

I'm specialised in "guerilla content creation" wich means I've developped an expertise in low budget (Final Cut HD based) installation of broadcast quality/film/HD editing suites and support. I've installed and supported a little less than 200 of those suites up here in Eastern Canada aver the last 5 years.

My professional interest in opening a business in Colombia is twofold:

1) offer consultant services to broadcasters and indy filmakers and help them design their suites and purchase wisely while offering support to said broadcasters and indy filmakers.

2) open an affordable service bureau for indy filmakers and broadcasters that need an additional suite for short periods of time.

Some have suggested to me to open the business in Florida and work towards South America from there.

What do you think?

I'm interested in this thread My expertise is radio broadcasting and broadcast instruction. I work for a major market station and I teach broadcasting two days a week at a local university. I would appreciate information on broadcasting schools in Colombia, as well as information in general on radio there. I speak intermediate Spanish right now, and continue to study the language and improve. At some point I would like to move to La Costa (BAQ/CTG) and be able to use my experience and eek out a living. On my travels to Colombia, I heard good radio and bad radio (just like in The States). I have consulted the local Spanish language station in my city, and have helped them improve their on-air presentation. The company I work for is involved with Spanish radio in the USA, and while there may be opportunities for me here, my objective is to work in Colombia. Thanks in advance for your information.

Nomadmax Where I could help you with is setting you up with an online HD uncompressed Edit suite for about $20k USD with integration, training and support.

Just a tip Be careful about literally translating "guerilla content creation" here. Unless, of course, you feel like working for the guerillas, who no doubt already have their own editing suite.

I was about to say the same thing........... as Hollywood....I am an HD Indy filmaker, but I plan on making more drama/suspense categories. Although it seems that Colombians LOVE comedy and satire.

The biggest pain for me, is getting my VERY expensive equipment and cameras down to Colombia, and seeking the city permits to shoot. - How can you help?

How to write a script? Now that you are talking about movies, I'd like to write a drama script but I don't know much about it, my background is in engineering but sometimes I got ideas on writing, even I write some poetry. Which internet sites or books would you recommend that will help me starting in this? Thanks a lot,
Francisco

Have I got the book for you........... One of my screenplay starters when I was a young lad at NYU was book called "How NOT to write a screenplay" - it is a MUST have book for anyone that wants any idea on how the process of screen writing begins and works!

The author:
Denny Martin Flinn

You can purchase it on Amazon.com for about $12 bucks.

Also, check out a website called:

www.triggerstreet.com

You can read sample screenplays from amateur screenwriters - good ones too! The site is sponsored by Billy Cristal and Kevin Spacey

Guerrilla content creation is actually... an expression based on a book written in 1999 on how to be one person Hollywod major with limited budget and assets and still create and make a living.
Shooting in MiniDV, DVCAM or HDV to edit in Final Cut Pro qualifies for the title:

Digital Guerrilla Video: A Grassroots Guide to the Revolution

Here's the amazon link:

It was'nt meant as a political statment about the situation in Colombia. Should have tought more before putting it that way. Sorry abou that.
