What are the best 3 Hotel/Resorts/Casino's in Medellin, and why?

Looking for hotel that is also good for Americans, who are visting for their first time in Medellin. Also looking for a tour bus of the city. Also, are there any Hotel/Casino's? And is the Intercontinental Resort a good choice? Thanks in advance for any feedback!!!

Colombian Casinos are generally pretty crappy. There are numerous on Ave Pblado, 24 hr, near to P lleres. Portafino (IMO) is the best out of them. The one at San Diego is probably the busiest on weekends.

I would highly recommend Hotel Affinity, in the Poblado area, next to the mall, there is a small casino around the corner. Rooms are like small apartments, free internet. Staff was very nice and effecient. Stayed there about a year ago, $100/night then, I am sure pricing is up due to currency issues, maybe not cheap by Colombia standards but compared to what you get here in the states it was a great bargain.

Short taxi ride to Parque Lleres, the Holiday Inn(who would have guessed) has a new larger casino attached to it, it is about 5-6 blocks from the Affinity.

I know these are kind of gringo recommendations but since it is your first time in Medellin I would stick with a more fimilar surrounding, next trip you can stay where the locals stay(if you are into that)

bickerss,
Thanks for the claification on Portafino, pretty nice set up there with the restaurants and shops. Surprised that a Holiday Inn anchors it, don't see too many new Holiday Inns in what I would describe as an upscale location. stopped by the casino briefly, lost $20 bucks and left, it was OK, I will save my money for the Veneto In Panama City.

Thats my good luck casino - I was sitting at roulette (actually up for once) and they called out a number. It was for my spot and won 500,000. They do a variation of that very night. Up stairs is the Sushi restaurant (same chain as the one in Tesoro) which has a nice setting (lounge up stairs) and 50% off on Tuesdays.

glad you mentioned the hotel inter.....years ago--19 of em--i lived at the intercontinental. it was the best then and in my opinion is the best now. has everything, it's secure, cosmopolitan, well equipped, efficient and sets in a wonderful properto atop las palmas and is easy access to virtually all of medellin and it's surrounding areas. don't need to wait for a taxi, a collectivo nor a bus. the best. i spent near $5,500.00 in a month and a half there.

Thank you for the feed back. Im thinking the intercontinental is the best way to go. From what I understand, the hotel is not in the city? I heard it is about 5 miles from the city. Is it far from the airport? Are there nice places around the hotel, or must you always travel into the city. Is the suite worth the price, or executive, or standard room. Any and all feedback is very much appreciated!!!!!

Hands down, the Portofino is the best casino right now in Medellin. It is indeed strange that a Holiday Day Inn (EXPRESS!) anchors this development. The high rollers mainly play there. They will blow 4-10 million pesos within a few hours easy. The food here sucks. They don't serve beer, but they do serve hard liquor (rum, whiskey and of course arguardiente). My buddy took them for 1.4 million pesos on his last night in town at Roulette (he hit his # straight up with 40mil).

The best looking casino staff (women) are at Rio Casino in San Diego--this casino is probably also the most fun on the weekends. There are no hotels here.

The other major casino is in Centro, called Casino Caribe. Good times here - I took them for 2million pesos the other night at Blackjack (of course I gave it all back over the next several days at the casinos and blowing pesos on other fun stuff).

The only two other casinos that have table games are Havana Casino which is tiny and connected to Oviedo Mall and 24 hr Casino a few blocks down on Av Poblado.

No casino in Medellin compares to the larger casinos in Panama. No casino in Medellin has an attached/affiliated hotel property (i.e. no comp rooms).

To also answer you question, Medellin is a city so there are no "resort" type hotels in the city.

They said I couldn't play football I was too small / They say I couldn't play basketball I wasn't tall / They say I couldn't play baseball at all / And now everyday of my life I ball.

the hotel intercontinental is in las palmas...right up the hill from parke lleras...5 min max.

you're close to everything, it's quiet, secure, plenty of pretty gals and maybe even (now) casino facilities. they didn't have gambling back when i lived there.
