Are you located in San Gil as well?

beckloud says on Feb 8, 2008, 15:39:

Sorry, we are located in Bogota..... Are you interested in teaching in San Gil Santander?

sothrn_belle says on Feb 8, 2008, 15:46:

Actually no, I live in the US but my father, who is Colombian speaks fluent English so I could ask him if he's interested. I'm sure he would be if the pay is good.

beckloud says on Feb 8, 2008, 16:05:

I see,,,,,, well, your father would be welcome here in Bogota!

What about in medellin? I need to start looking for another job, the director at the institute where I'm working is starting to go insane.

Leeroy says on Feb 9, 2008, 13:45:

how much money is "excellent pay", if you don't mind me asking?

borat says on Feb 9, 2008, 15:21:

20,000cop per hour

what you believe is not important, it's what you do that counts

Leeroy says on Feb 9, 2008, 15:34:

Right. So, 20 hours of teaching a week would equal 400,000 pesos a week. Which would be, give or take, 1,600,000 a month.

Not bad money - I guess, I mean one could live quite well on that in Bogotá. You could get a decent enough apartment in Chapinero, and have enough left over for beers and the occasional meal out.

But "excellent pay"? Maybe I'm just being pedantic...

borat says on Feb 9, 2008, 15:36:

maybe you'd have to do more than 20 contact hours per week

what you believe is not important, it's what you do that counts

Leeroy says on Feb 9, 2008, 15:37:

I guess so.

beckloud says on Feb 9, 2008, 15:48:

mranderson, It is funny but true....that kind of stuff is very common!

beckloud says on Feb 9, 2008, 15:51:

leeroy, borat. Perhaps it is just a little more than 20,000cop per hour!

Wastelandlive says on Feb 9, 2008, 16:31:

In my experience, if it really is 20K/hour... that's not bad for Colombia. Remember guys, it's what the market price is.

If you can't settle for that... you might want to negotiate with benefits. Does that include a meal? (Some schools have a kitchen and can prepare a group lunch.) Can they help with housing? How about transportation?

One caution: schools in Colombia are famous for simply not paying. Professional standards aren't what we are used to up North. That's not everybody... just some people. But make it clear with your employer that you are paid on time, or you walk... and if there is any funny business around the first pay period, don't let them string you along.

I'd be very cautious about relocating for a start up enterprise. Just remember... it's not like you are going to work for Microsoft.

Are the hours flexible? Call me if you need help in Medellín. I´m bilingual and have lived in the US for a long time, but I have no teaching experience. Do you offer study material?

CEO Fajardo´s Fan Club, Medellín, Colombia

borat says on Feb 10, 2008, 12:01:

Beckloud.....no it isn't

Wastelandlive.....they don't have a school, they send you to companies to teach privates, (they offer travel expenses).

what you believe is not important, it's what you do that counts

borat says on Feb 10, 2008, 12:05:

You know that when a school doesn't publish the rates that it pays, it's because the rates are crap

what you believe is not important, it's what you do that counts

beckloud says on Feb 11, 2008, 16:58:

Here are the rates: $ 32,000 cop per session of 1:30 Hours.

$ 47,000 cop per session of 2:15 Hours

$ 62,000 cop per session of 3:00 hours

The amounts stated above are after taxes or take home money, Only the British Council beats Petersons money wise speaking. We are still hiring we will need more than 7 teachers so far.UNLIKE OTHER INSTITUTES WE ALWAYS PAY ON TIME!

Hi Beckloud,
I'm an Australian (native speaker of course), and am currently completing my assignments etc for my TESOL certificate. I am looking at coming to Bogota to teach English, Can you provide me with more details please. For example, do you provide the work visa, are there split shifts, what level would one be teaching?
Thanks and have a great day!
