nueva york bombero says on Jul 15, 2008, 07:10: I caught it in the firehouse last night. Good show, but they could do 10 more episodes just in Colombia. They even threw a little history in there. That Anthony Bourdain sure is brave to go to that crazy country without bodyguards!

Mononoke28 says on Jul 15, 2008, 07:24: The show was AWE-SOME!!!! I was expecting a good show but never, ever thought it was going to be so well done and so extremely giving. Anthony Bourdain eating chunchurria and arepa de chócolo from a street vendor, then eating recalentao in the Minorista? Eating a bandeja paisa in Envigado and then taking the metro cable to eat sancocho de leña in the comunas?? Diana 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

david barkley says on Jul 15, 2008, 14:41: If I was a vacationing traveler, watching that show last night, would not make me want to go to Colombia. They showed a lot of dirty places, and greasy food, not much women, not much scenery except rundown looking places.

kernow62 says on Jul 15, 2008, 15:52: The show was not supposed to be a tourist board type of show, his show always shows the gritty side of life. To balance things a bit he did go to one fairly upscale restaurant and showed that whist the food had traditional ingredients it was prepared and presented to a very high standard. I know most of the idiots on these forums think Colombia = easy hot women, but for many it is much more than that. I have never chosen a travel destination based on what food is served, that aspect is secondary to the scenery and the people themselves.

But I will give the ears a try if I ever see them sold. Hell, I would be happy to find chicken feet so I could make a decent sopa de menudencias. BEWARE of gold diggers. 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Lcacique says on Jul 16, 2008, 00:41: Wasn't much in the show that I haven't tried, but it was entertaining nonetheless. As for pulling tourism, I think the show definitely contributed a nice stamp of approval for Colombia. People will watch the show and see that it is safe for a very tall, famous gringo to walk around in the "bad" neighborhoods without any problems, and reason that the country is not nearly as dangerous as many people seem to believe. I'm glad he generally stays away from posh restaurants and motels...had they shown some of the "finer" sides of Colombia...cool. The fact that they didn't really do that much of it, I can careless. All sides of Colombia are beautiful. Hoy se nota en la floresta un ambiente de alegría. ¡Y el rumor de ranchería es mas dulce y sabe a fiesta! 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
|
kernow62 says on Jul 16, 2008, 08:24: Rob, they sell chicken feet here too. Are you sure Destin is in the South? It seems as though you are limited on what groceries you can purchase up there.

|
Mononoke28 says on Jul 16, 2008, 08:41: Anthony Bourdain is not about tourism and vacations like Samantha Brown is. It's a totally different show and I would say that about 80%-90% of the time he eats at average places, street vendors, dives, and even regular folks' homes. Every now and then he'll go to a fancy restaurant but mainly to eat something that the place is known for. Everything else is rough, on your face type of stuff. He's done it all over the world, in Greece, Vietnam, Brazil, and I'm glad he did it at the Minorista and the Medellín Comunas. It was 100% Bourdain and I would have been extremely dissappointed if he had not done it the way he did. Diana 0 funny, 0 helpful. |

Robert Jorge says on Jul 16, 2008, 22:58: Kernow - nope, no chicken feet here either. I am sure I could obtain them if I really wanted to. But they are not sold in any grocery store here. You have to be south of Ocala I think to find chicken claws for sale. Hell, I can't even find chicken hearts. I can get gizzards - but that is it. Liver also. Sopa de menudencias is my favorite soup - with mondongo a close second. I lived off of that stuff for 4 months ... and was as happy as I would be if I lived off of Ruth's Chriss steakhouse food. lpdiver says on Jul 17, 2008, 13:11: Yes, but to use it to make blood boudin (morcillio) a licensed meat inspector must be on hand when you slaughter the pig. Very few people want to bother. "cook some rice!" 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
