gerakis I like football too, watching it is almost as good as playing yourself. At the moment I'm listening to Carrusel deportivo en Caracol Radio. They're commentating on the matches (normal fixtures take place on Sundays at 3:30pm local time save a couple of fixtures) at the moment.
The Colombian league is not bad at all, one of the best in Latin America but not much compared to the European leagues.
There are several interesting teams and you would probably find a special atmosphere in El Campin-Bogota (Millonarios/Santa Fe), El Atanasio Girardot - Medellin (Nacional-Deportivo Independiente Medellin), Pascual Guerrero (America/ Deportivo Cali) and El Metropolitano-Barranquilla (Junior) although I'm sure there is a special atmosphere right now in Cartagena as Real Cartagena have retaken the lead against Pereira.....these matches have a higher significance as these are now "Los Cuadrangulares"....what basically happens is that the league (Copa Mustang) kicks off and everyone plays everyone (there's 18 teams) home and away. At the end of that the top 8 carry on to Los Cuadrangulares which is basically 2 groups of 4 Group A consisting of the 1st, 3rd, 5th & 7th teams and group B consisting of the 2nd 4th 6th & 8th teams. Again home and away...at the end of that winner of group A plays the winner of group B for the title.
If you want to catch some football you'll need to be in Colombia before the 18th of December as that's the 2nd leg of the final (the 1st leg will be played on 14th December).
This year's tournament has been very interesting with no less than 14 teams vying for a place in the top 8....big teams that missed the boat were present champions Nacional, Millonarios had a blistering start to the tournament but something happened there.

sorry qindioman but it doesn't make sense to say that "The Colombian league is not bad at all, one of the best in Latin America but not much compared to the European leagues". If one of the best in Latin American doesn't measure up to Europe, then European soccer is superior. The Mexican, Argentinian, and Brazilian leagues are as good as any in Europe, and better than most.

quindioman says on Nov 28, 2005, 02:21:

ok jaramillo i'd probably put the Colombian league just below those 3 you named, however those 3 leagues are not as good as any in Europe, as good as the Belgian or Greek perhaps....but do you really want to compare the Brazilian league with the Premiership, the Argentinian league with La Liga or the Mexican league with Serie A?

I guess you are right though Jaramillo...that comment was not too well thought out.......personally my favourite league is the Colombian but if you are going to ask me which is the best it's either La Liga or the Premiership.....hands down.

I currently live in Salamanca, and I keep a close eye on the liga. True, right now Barca is hard to match, but the rest of the league is quite comparable to the Argentininian or Brazilian leagues. Do you mean to tell me that Osasuna is better than River? or that Getafe is bettter than Boca? Let's not talk about Real since the two I mentioned are better. But I see your point...

lozza says on Nov 29, 2005, 05:50:

Many people seem to think that the Brazilian league is one of the best, because it is Brasil. It is not, at the moment it is a shambles, many of the stadiums are condemned, all the best players quickly leave for Europe, Argentina or Mexico where the system is more organised and they pay better. The Argentian League is good but consistently dominated by just two teams. Mexico has a good league, lots of money and many good Brazilian and Argentinian players. Colombian football can be 'interesting' if you like 'bounce-ball'!!! and don't forget Uruguay, which always has some pretty strong clubs. There may be a couple of South American teams which could give the Euopean teams a good game, but in terms of 'leagues' they don't compare with the English, Spanish, Italian of even German leagues. This could be considered a biased point of view, but the Euopean leagues are of such a high quality partly because they have so many Argentinans, Brazilians, Uruguayans, and yes a couple of Colombians, playing in them. But, watch a Colombian league game then turn over to the Premiership or La Liga and you will see the difference.
By the way, Fox sports is great for the Premiership (i get to see more games in full than back home), and for the Argentinian and Mexican Leagues. ESPN shows lots of La Liga nad Dutch and Italian league games.

Lozza if you are in the US and have Direct TV, other good options are GOL TV for South American teams as well as some La Liga. Setanta is good for Premiership and Bundesliga, especially good if you are a Man Utd. or Chelski supporter. Univision is good for Mexican matches.

Mexican league I hate, and i know many colombians do, the mexican league. I don't really know why, but iv'e never seen a more boring and less passionate way to play soccer than the way they do it in mexico. Recently, y red an article in SoHo, called "lo que le sobra al futbol". One of them was the mexican league. You can see the emotion, the fury, the pride, in any game from a peruvian, ecuatorian, uruguayan, brazilian or colombian team when facing, let's say, Boca Juniors, River Plate. You also have to see a Nacional - Medellin match, or a Cali - America match. It's never the same. They may not pay so much, but as almost anything in colombia, it's not the best, wich makes it better.

Verde campeon, rey de copas!!!!

Atletico Nacional I recommend you go to El Estadio Atanasio Girardot and watch Atletico Nacional de Medellin play. In 2006 they will be in Copa Libertadores and you can expect to see the stadium full or at least 35,000 people for these games. The environment during Nacional games in the stadium is incredible. I highly recommend it.

P.S. Do not go to tribuna Sur unless your willing to jump and sing throughout the whole game. You'll see what I mean.

Damn, you guys really do like soccer, good for you! I must be the only South American that finds that game BORING. Even when I was in Barranquilla I always preferred baseball over soccer. For me excitement is a baseball game between Yankees and Boston red sox or Yankees and their all time rival from the west coast, LA Dodgers.
A barranquillero named Renteria just signed a 4 year deal with the Atlanta braves for a measly $40 million USA dollars, he’s not even in the top one hundred money making players.
A lotta gringos show very little interest for soccer, and not for lack of trying .

Sharing the passion While watching Caracol TV, the 7:00 P.M. Sport News, tonight, they announced that Wason Rentería scored in Brazil, so we have another player to add to my previous incomplete list. I am sorry, the news keep adding more.

The list below is a partial because there are over 200 Colombian players who play abroad in different leagues, it is very hard to name them all. These are the players who stand out the most.

Here is a list that I found:

If you asked any of the Best South American players where they would like to play they would probably say , U.K , Italy or Spain.

Man U , Chelsea , Liverpool , Arsenal , Real Madrid , Barcelona , Inter Milan , Milan , Juventus are probably the worlds elite clubs with the money and the chance for sucess for a player , who has the money to spend that Chelsea do.?.
