We at the Tiger Paw Hostel have sports bar open on Cr 36 and Cl 10-49 (in front of Crepes and Waffles) for the NBA Finals this Thurs at 8:00 pm.
We offer domestic beer at 2000 COP and Hieneken for 3500 COP. You also have free use of the pool table. You can check out photos of the bar at www.tigerpawhostel.com though we have added TVs since the photos.
We do not offer food yet but we are next to Dominos Pizza if you'd like to bring some food in or have us call them for you.
Come take in the game, have a few beers, then walk two blocks to Parque Lleras to go out.
If you have any questions you can call us at 311-6079.
See you there!
Brian

august says on Jun 1, 2008, 16:13: Yes, but on the very bottle of Pilsen it says 1100 COP suggested retail and on the TV ads for Costeno they say the same price! I know every cornershop sells for 1500, but almost doubling the price for backpackers? Scandalous!

adrimm (Moderator) (☼Travelguide writer) says on Jun 1, 2008, 18:30: Who cares? They'll pay it they want to drink there (it's a bar not a store). How many hotels do you know that charge the retail price for their food/beverages?

spigrimace says on Jun 2, 2008, 09:12: Brian, you will find out running a sports bar can be a thankless job. Like my place, every year youll spend $100USD or more each for ESPN Game Plan, ESPN Full Court, MLB.tv &/or MLB Extra Innings, HBO Plus for Boxing, NBA league pass, NFL Sunday Ticket, NHL Center Ice, Mediazone Rugby, etc. etc. etc. plus $300USD a bulb around 2 times a year for the projector, all the monthly internet, Direc TV, energy costs and all other related costs like employees, cleaning, bathroom costs, glass breakage, etc. You have all the startup costs to try to eventually cover as well. A domestic beer costs wholesale 900 for Pilsen up to about 1100 for Club Colombia - warm. So add the electricity cost of getting it cold and the albeit small cost of the bottles and case which is a deposit system. Its between Brian and DIAN if he has to charge IVA on the sale of the beer which at 16% is a huge cost. As a restaurant, I have to. Even if he doesnt have to charge the sales tax, he still makes at best, a mil a beer. Thats a lot of beer one needs to sell to cover all those monthly costs. In my eyes Brian, these folks dont see the whole picture and dont realize the huge bargain they are getting when they use our services. Maybe you can give the backpacker that sleeps at the hostel who just wants to shoot pool a break on the price, but for the off the street fan, who comes in to watch a game thats not on any cable down here, add up all the costs above translate it to pesos and divide by mil pesos profit a beer to get how many beers a Medellin sports bar owner has to sell just to break even and you should now feel like youre getting a really good deal.

bogotabrian says on Jun 2, 2008, 11:37: I completely agree, Chris. People don't just understand the costs of running a sports bar. Wholesale costs are around 1 mil and I would make absolutely nothing selling them at 1.5 mil. I have a very nice bar, pool table, furniture, multiple flat screens, laptops to run the games, and an excellent location. I will never apologize for running a business to make money, if you work hard and provide a good service.

BillBigD says on Jun 2, 2008, 20:09: Brain-As I said before I thought your pricing was a good deal. On Bama only 1 non qual guy for 2008 class so far.. But they said he might still get in as he needs to retake one class from this freshman year. Today we landed #3 rated RB in class 2009.
