War has started!

AFP - 25 minutes ago

BOGOTA (AFP)
The Venezuelan Army attacked a joint post of the Colombian Army in North Colombia on the Colombian-Venezuelan border while gunship helicopters were noticed violating Colombian airspace during the past two hours.

The Venezuelan troops also took away a local officer to their base on Sunday when they entered the Colombian territory. However, Venezuelan officials denied the attack and termed it beyond truth.

They said the post, which is known as Maicao post, was attacked with 12.7 machineguns Saturday night. However, no loss of life or damage to property was reported in the attack. According to sources, Colombian forces did not retaliate and it was possible the target were fighters either crossing into Venezuelan Maracaibo province at night.

Eyewitness told this scribe on phone that Venezuelan military personnel held a local officer, and took him to a Venezuelan base on the other side of the border.

“There were 16 troops and several army soldiers who came in four vehicles and put the officer in their vehicle and took him to Venezuela", explained a local witness. He said since there was no border line between the two neighbouring countries, it was possible that the Colombian officer mistakenly crossed into Venezuela and was thus caught by the troops.

Local people have been noticing Venezuela gunship helicopters flying several kilometres inside Colombian territory for the last several hours.

Amid mounting tensions between Colombia and Venezuela, Colombian defense minister announces the purchase of 24 Israeli fighter jets.

Colombia's Defense Minister Juan Manuel Santos made the announcement after meeting with Israeli War Minister, Ehud Barak.

"There is an agreement to buy 24 renovated Kfir fighter planes from Israel, whose construction has already started. And the planes will be delivered at the start of next year," Santos said.

In his visit to Israel the Colombian minister also held meetings with senior military officials as well as Israeli Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert.

Kfir aircraft is a multi-purpose all-weather fighter jet, mainly used by the United States Navy.

Now the farc claim that they were not in Ecuadorian territory. Interesting.

http://www.eluniversal.com/2008/03/02/chcol_ava_revista-de-las-farc:_0...

robi666 says on Mar 2, 2008, 17:02:

Well, again, an explanation...

When I first read the news yesterday, I immediately had the feeling of something serious and dangerous happening.
You don't go and just bomb a camp in Ecuador, NOT at this time, NOT with the actual international situation, NOT with El Loco Chavez around.
It has been a very, very hazardous move by President Uribe. I am not judging if bad or good move, he took the weight of it on his shoulders and he showed to be a leader. Time will tell.

But, PBH was just in an euphoric state of mind... people posting funny shit around, someone wanted to party, someone wanted to drink.
I tried to make people consider what it could happen, before Chavez was declaring to send his soldiers to the border with Colombia.

So I thought: do people need a real war to consider that this is not a game? So I invented a war for an hour...

Sorry if someone got scared. Scotty, do not take it personally. I'll make you forgive me...

Robi666 was not the only person to think this "take-out" was a high risk operation and wonder how he had/was going to cover his tracks about an operation in another nation with an opposing doctrine. It was my first reaction also and I wondered what could happen to all the initial euphoria once Chavez/Correa and the FARC themselves had got over the 1st shock.

That said, Robi's playful reminder that everybody had yet to have their say was surely "over the top" for those of a more believing nature. Robi, Orson only just got away with it and he was (even then) considered a genius. Fat chances you would get away with this without some justifiable flak.

That said, is everyone that has complained about Robi's post convinced that it could not represent news headlines in the next few days?
