I am Colombian,,,,, I saw as a little girl the way men are in Colombia and the freedom I get in America, where men are more open minded. I am looking for a man that doesn't drink and someone responsible. Also someone that respects my desire to become something of myself, and someone that is not so jelous. two number one reasons I don't like most Colombians,, they drink too much and they want to dominate your life. First of all, Colombia is not the Wal-Mart of women, where you go, pick one out and then pay for her at the cash register. With that approach you are going to get exactly what you deserve - a gold-digger or hooker who is going to use you just as you are using her.

Amazed at some of the bitterness of these comments It never ceases to amaze me how some people think that being anonymous on a discussion board gives them the right to talk the way some of these comments sounds..i.e the extremely negative ones.

It's obvious that some of these guys have had negative experiences at some point in their past but have chosen to carry that load of bitterness further down the road of life with them. It really doesn't serve any effective purpose and certainly isn't good for their spirit (IMHO :-)

I went to Colombia a few years ago, back right after 9-11. My romantic experience was both happy and unhappy but I still wouldn't trade it for the world and I'm looking forward to the day I can get back to Barranquilla....or the vallenato festival in Uphar.

Us US guys ought to remember that none of us are perfect either. If we want understanding and forgiveness from our friends and girlfriends, and especially our spouses, then we need to give the same qualities. Not only is that the Biblical position but it's also common business practice. 'Investment' precedes the 'return'. And it's also a true mark of both wisdom and strength.

I think the reason most of us US guys like Colombian women is because, in general, their society down there hasn't forced certain responsibilities, expectations and challenges on them that our society here has forced on many of our women. Yes, I have met some US women that I think are attractive and appealing but I think the women in Colombia are, generally, more feminine than these US chicks who get all wrapped up in pursuing the 'good life' on their own and spend way way too much time reading articles on pop psychology.

There's nothing wrong with a women, anywhere, wanting a man who can take care of her. Even the Bible says that a man should be able to take care of his family. If we, i.e guys, want a women to raise our family, then we have to ante up to the task of protecting her while she goes through the task of bearing our kids and fullfilling her responsibilites as a mother. If both members of the relationship agree that they're going to pursue something other than a family..i.e a business or a mutual dream of some other sort..then that's OK too.


I liked the comment one of the guys made about the difficulty in transplanting a plant from Colombia to Boston. I agree. I'm not so sure that bringing any foreign lady here is a totally advisable thing. I know that sometimes they change for the worse but I still thing the odds of one of those marriages working out successfully are much better than the odds of the average US marriage.

Personally, I like those odds.

Marco, you are so correct. This Colombian woman is an amazing, accidental discovery made right here in England. No funny games. Just honesty. Don't you find that the attitude some less developed individuals bring with them to Colombia is a bit rude. All the women are gold diggers and the men will drug your drink, steal your money and then leave you in the hands of the FARC with no clothes on. Not my views but very common amongst some.
Colombia seems to be fine.....apart from the stupid gringo cabrones.

What do Colombian women want? Not the best question. I suppose that each one is different and want different things. I have a lovely girlfriend from Medellin - smart, well traveled, educated and absolutely lovely. She isn't a gold digger, far from it. She is a woman with an amazing heart, and very willing to open it. What she wanted was someone who was caring, open-minded, self assured and unbigoted about her country, because although she was ready to live in America, she was also very proudly Colombian.

Some of the venom I've read on this list serv shows the character of a lot of the American men who go to Colombian to "shop" for love. Not very bright. If you genuinely like the people and the culture, then more than likely the people will be agreeable. But if you think you're some bwana in a land of subservient people, they'll see that and treat you like the weak-minded bloke you are. Colombian women are wonderful and smart. And some Colombian women are dumb. As are American men, and it really shows in some of the crap I've read here.
