waiting time to receive Visa After interview

Hello to all

My fiancé and I have our interview set for July 8th 2008 at the embassy in Bogotá can you tell me after the interview is over how long will she have to wait to receive her Visa? Should we wait in Bogotá? or travel back to BQ?

Thank you for your help

I would guess that they will send it by courier in about 2 weeks. Be ready to pay that extra fee.

From what I've read here before, the embassy says you may have to wait up to one week if it's being delivered to a Bogota address, but it typically arrives in two business days, i.e. interview Monday and you'll probably have it by Wednesday p.m.

Someone else may have an anecdote about Deprisa (might be Domesa -- see post below) delivery to other large cities.

It depends. The embassy now sends the visas through Domesa(a courier service). You can opt to have it sent to your fiance's home. This should take about a week. If you prefer, you can choose to pick it up at a Domesa office in Bogota. This supposedly only takes about three days.

Keep in mind that I am only relaying what I've been told by others who've recently gone through the interview process. I would highly recommend that you visit VisaJourney.com and look into the "Colombia Club" thread (http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2572). It is a huge thread, but you can do a search for "Domesa" using the "Search Topic" box towards the bottom of the page and you will find more info. Of course, you can always just post the question in that thread as well.

Good luck with the interview. We have our K-3 interview in mid June.

How long ago was that? You can no longer pick up the visas at the embassy.

This from the interview packet on the embassy site.

VISA DELIVERY SERVICE FEES

All approved immigrant and K visa packages are delivered by DOMESA de Colombia, a private courier service. Unfortunately, we can make no exceptions. On the day of their interview, applicants must bring sufficient cash, in Colombia pesos, to pay for delivery of their visa packages. Applicants will receive detailed instructions from a DOMESA agent the morning of their interview.

Please note that delivery service is not available for a small number of Colombian cities and towns. Applicants from these locations may pick up their visa packages at a DOMESA office or have their visa packages delivered to a friend or family member.

Visa package delivery will take about four to six business days. Applicants should not make any travel arrangements before they have physically received their visa package.

Yeah, unfortunately since last December you can no longer pick up the visas at the embassy. Domesa handles the deliveries. But you if you want to leave from Bogotá without having to go to Barranquilla, you can give your temporary address in Bogotá to have the visa delivered or do as CG said, and pick it up at the Domesa place. It should be ready in a couple of days.

I wonder what the rationale is about requiring delivery service, rather than a pick-up at the embassy? Talk about added expense to the beneficiary and/or sponser! Added hotel expense, food expense, possibly higher plane ticket prices, more fees, travel expense, etc. Actually, I guess I just answered my own question.

BEWARE of gold diggers.

Congrats my good friend raycjs and to your wonderful fiance..

I think you have one of the fastest times in years.. Vermont received your package on Feb 6/08 and your fiancé and daughters interview is on July 8/08.. Wow 5 months and 2 days.. That was fast.. So by mid July at the latest you will have them with you in the states..

Ray I think you might have to buy your Lawyer who is a former INS Lawyer a nice dinner for the very fast service.. eh

Ray ,

I think I have read here over the years that you have to arrive a few hours before your interview because of the huge line up ?

Am I right or wrong on this folks ?

Anyone have current info to tell Ray about that ?

So if someone for example had a 7 am interview how early should they be there ?

They will have a young 3 year old child with them.. Will that get them in any faster into the embassy for their interview ?

How long is the usual wait outside the embassy for your interview ?

Are there nearby restaurants and washrooms to use ?

Thanks for responding to these questions and Rays question..

Have a great day , eh

ray,

I hate to sound like a broken record, but you will get more accurate and up to date information at VisaJourney.com. All these topics are frequently discussed by people who've recently gone through the process. Here, you are more likely to get outdated or incorrect information.

Most people who go the the US embassy in Bogotá arrive early because they are going for tourist visas and for them is all first come, first served. The embassy gives all other visa petitioners an appointment and no matter how early you get there, the CO will see you at whatever time they call you. So even if you get there at 4:30 a.m. and are the first ones in line, you may be the last couple to be interviewed say at 11:30 a.m. or Noon just because that's when they called you up to the window.

My advice is for you to get there at around 6:30 a.m. so you can be through the door at 7 a.m. which is when they let everybody in. Again, don't worry if you're in the middle of the line or even last because it won't matter at all.

Why do you keep bumping this? Are there any specific questions that remain unanswered to your satisfaction?

VisaJourney is an infinitely better place to get information about this. As I stated previously, ask here http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=2572

MR BILL is right on that one... hey bill, mark and carolina here.. mr bill was good enough to pick us up at the airport and take us to his apt. and then take us to our interview. Then after we were approved, he took us up to his home in the mountians, for a week. then we headed back to cali where the papers where to be sent. another 3 days and they were there.. also he is right on paying the fee for the service.

also I would like to point out to be sure to stay someplace well known. It's really hard to find a address of a home in colombia. but if your staying at a well known hotel then the guy can find that place a lot easier.. be sure to give them a cell number as well in case they can't find you.
