I know there is a whole bunch of posts about this visa that visa and how to go about getting them, but I need to back up a bit and figure out what my options and timeline are. I was looking into a cedula de extranjeros but then learned in one post that you can`t do that without a visa. Am i getting ahead of myself.
My brother and I are currently here on a 2 month tourist visa looking for purchasing land and starting a small scale venture. Now untill all that is taken care of I take it I just keep extending my tourist visa. Then is our only option a investor visa? Are there any other visas we can persue? Because if we don`t invest enough for the both of us to get a visa we will have problems. Ideally we will switch off living here 6 months at a time, but thats a few years down the road. We are in santa marta so we could do border runs, pick up gas while we are at it. Always feels good to take gas off Chavez for less than cost, thus money out of his pocket.
Just any input where we should go from here.

papichuleta says on May 30, 2008, 17:47: Forget the cedula if you don't have the visa (and not the tourist visa that gets stamped into your passport when you arrive, or renewed by DAS 30 days down the road). Having said that, deciding what type of visa and obtaining it is a moving landmine of a problem. Every person you encounter, including those who actually work for the guv and are supposed to know, is going to give you different information. If you do find someone in DAS to help you, get a name and number, because someone else is going to tell you something different. Unless you have extremely good advice and a lot of luck, finding and paying for a good immigration lawyer in Colombia is the way to go. At least in my humble, school-of-hard-luck opinion.

Beachbros says on Jun 2, 2008, 06:59: I have searched for days to figure out what options I have and have made no progress. Don't know why everyone is so hostile to a simple question, isn't this forum to help our fellow people wishing to live in colombia. I would not have made a post if I had not thouroughly searched first and it was as a last resort. What I did do was read every forum on Cedulas before realizing I was not permited to get one. I have found that my only option is an investment visa. No student visa, no work visa, no buisness visa, no pension visa, no religious visa, no marrage visa, no refugee visa, no crew ship visa. I have read plenty, apparently not enough or not in the right places. I have searched through all the posts and none of them give a simple outline. I am sure it would be useful for future PBH users. Therefore I am asking for HELP. Please, I am by no means being lazy on my end, I have RTFF, but if someone could save me more searching that has gotten me almost no further. PLEASE.

Beachbros says on Jun 2, 2008, 20:13: Well we wanted to invest 50 g's each, so i guess one of us could get a investment visa but the other one would be shit out of luck. As we don't fit any other visa is there anything else out there short of getting married. I have found nothing, so if there is nothing please say so. I know there must be people out there that don't fit any of the visa options and don't have a 100 gs but do live or plan to live in colombia. Any secrets of how to stay?
