Visa options - Business route....and how can I open a bank account

Hi all.

Looking for clarifications regarding Visa options

Reading valuable info here yet am still very confused
It seems that everyone had its own rout or pure luck
When going to the MRE I receive different info each time I go

Can someone advise how to stay in Colombia and via the Negociante/Investor route?
MRE requires me to open a bank account in order to apply for Negociante visa and then get a Cedula de Estranjero, but no bank allows me to open account without a Cedula.

Can someone shed some light? Any recomendations?

Thanks

You might try www.visajourney.com first- everything, and then some, that you need to know about visas is there. And do a search here.....tons of threads about this available.

Before you throw me out, make sure I pay my bar tab

What MRE says goes for this type of visa.

I understand that MRE rule....
But how come they ask for a bank account when no bank will open an account for you with no cedulla.....but in order to start the negociante visa and the cedulla process you need to have a bank account :-)

When you get the visa FIRST you can apply for the cedula E. Try a savings account using your passport-you may have to vivit several banks.

Thanks Gator
I only ask them for saving account.....asked already about 12 different banks...and covered all major international banks
The worse service encountered was at CITIBANK :-)

You do not need a bank account to get a visa or cedulla.

Per MRE : When taking the negociante/Investor route of visa you must have a bank account first
In order to get a visa as negociante you must have a bank account to show that you brought 100 minimum level salaries to the country (=44 milion pesos)

Maybe you really want temporal especial socio instead of negociante.

Check on the minrelext.gov.co website, Tramites -> Tramites -> Visas. Click through all the links and you will have the information.

que nota!

I was under the impression that the funds needed to deposited first with Banco de la Republica de Colombia (Central Bank of Colombia), No cedula needed for this transaction. Banco de la Republica will supply the necessary paper work for MRE.

Business visa and investor’s visa have two different procedures: Business visa requires from you to establish a business in Colombia (with the record before the Chamber of Commerce and all), or that someone with a business in Colombia extend you an invitation to be a part of it (not to work for it).

Investor’s visa is something that the government will grant you if you make an investment in Colombia of at least 100.000 USD, investment that can be in real estate property. Once you make the investment (which means that you bring to Colombia that amount of money), you should fill the form 11 from the Bank of the Republic, who will grant you a certification for the investment. With the original of that document, your passport and a couple of pictures you will have your investor’s visa in about four hours directly from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Bogota.

This kind of visa will not expire and will allow you to have a cedula; with the cedula you will be able to open a bank account (savings).

Hi Gator
You wrote " No cedula needed for this transaction. Banco de la Republica will supply the necessary paper work for MRE"

No cedula needed..? the banks area asking for cedula,,,,,the banks will give you formulario #4 after you show a cedula and open a deposit.....banco de la rep will not give you formulario 4....they will issue formulario 11 after you deposit the money in a local bank account.

Do what you have to do-it worked for me.

Find yourself a good Contadores Publicos Certificados (CPA). That's how my paperwork etc., etc. was handled on more than one occasion. Your above statement is factually incorrect and you are NOT getting the advise you need.

If you want to buy a property to get an investor visa, you won't need a cedula nor a bank account.

SO let me get this right....can you get the investor visa before you purchase or do you get it after you purchase or invest in something over 100K. Sounds a bit scary if you get it after the fact. Would not want to pay over 100K and not have any formal documentation that you can stay in that country????

it is a whole lot easier to get the business visa; and especially a whole lot cheaper.
