I'll be spending a couple of weeknights in Villa de Leyva this month and was wondering if anyone had hotel recommendations? I'd like to stay somewhere for less than 100 US dollars per night (for a room that would accommodate 2 people). I thought the Mesopotamia looked nice online but wanted to get some opinions on here.
Also, any idea as to where I'd go to get a tour of the surrounding area on horseback? I thought having a guide to take my friend and I to the waterfalls or other areas of interest like the Infiernitos would be better than us trying to find it on our own. How much should I expect this to cost?

miamimike says on Nov 6, 2007, 06:46: I'm not famailiar with Prices there but let me tell you this, I have never even spent half of that($50) to stay in Bogota per night! $100 Bucks a Night for Hotel in this town would be very SERIOUS money indeed,,,I've I located these in my 2007 South American Handbook by Footprints and prices vary from $12-$30 nightly.,,,Hostal El Mirador Tra 8. no 6-94 (Tel-732-0941 and is 4 blocks from the main plaza in el centro downtown) , Colombian Highlands(1km from town) Cra 9, No 11-02. Tel 732-1379. This is run by Colombian Biologist Oscar Gilede, speaks English and runs some interesting day tours, walking trips ect. A couple who stayed there last year really enjoyed themselves. These are but a few but many good ones are to be found $40 or less per night. Good Luck. Peter has many good places listed as well as the place I posted about. Mid week should be no problem but on weekends/holidays best have a reservation. IKf you want to call the number is 57 (0)987 320 235. Five star is ain't but charm YES! YES! YES! travelingirl says on Nov 6, 2007, 13:31: Okay, sounds like the Mesopotamia is going to be my number one choice! I love charm and don't need anything fancy. :) Hopefully I'll be able to just get a room once I arrive b/c my dates aren't set in stone to where I can make reservations, although I know I'll be going during the week and not a weekend or holiday. I think I'll look into those others that miamimike mentioned and are on Peter's list as backups too. Around her hair she wore a yellow ribbon... 0 funny, 0 helpful. |
