Villa De Leyva Villa de Leyva is a beautiful and well preserved colonial town dating from the XVII century. It´s located about 45 minutes from Tunja.
Villa De Leyva is full of quaint old houses, small bed & breakfast hotels located inside old mansions. It´s an interesting experience to walk those paved old streets and visit some houses open to tourists. There are small restaurants and hotels for all budgets.
Near the town there´s a small museum with lots of fossils from the dinosaur era and before, the whole area where Villa de Leyva is located is now a desert but millions of years ago it was an inner sea therefore many fossils are still being found.

good choice Villa de Leyva is an excellent choice to rest, very beautifull and safe, you will fell like back in time, very nice and cheap hotels and restaurants, and cultural activities. I will recommend you the "Molino la Mesopotamia" it is an antique water mill and the water runs near every room giving you a very special sound for sleeping, they also have a pool made out of fossils and very quiet atmosphere.

very near by is a horse racing track. also is the little town of Raquira well known for its craftmanships and pintoresque streets, you can also ride mountain bike in the candelaria desert.

Also there is an antique nun-house not far away (in the middle of the road between raquira and V de leyva) great paintings.

In the town you will find amazing churchs, convents, and other activities as horse riding and mountain hiking to the Iguaque natural reserve, Also many antique artifacts in sale and modern arts and craftmanships.

Three days are enough in Villa de Leyva, in fact there are more things to do, when you arrive you can go to the tourism office, they have maps and will advice you depply.

Try not to go during some days in august when is some kind of kites festival, because the atmosphere turns a little "heavy" and noisy and finding Hotel is impossible.

Villa de Leyva With a beatiful landscape, Villa de Leyva is a little and historical town located not far away from the capital of Colombia. I can describe this place as another "Colombian wonder" full of nature and rich of culture. A place full of peace and misterious enchants which captured my heart!
