video games and systems in colombia

what is up with all the high cost of the video game systems in colombia. xbox 360 ps II, Wii and ps 3 games (not copias) are twice as much than in the US and if you purchase a US console -guess what the colombian (copias) dont work on them - you have purchase a chip to get them to work. also lots of bootlegs of both games and dvd/s -guess it has to do with imports from japan...

mariacvetanoski, hey as you have noticed everything that is imported in colombia is 80-120%(i like to use those numbers) more because of the aranceles or import tax, cars here are also double from what they are in the states,
i know im going to get flamed for this but i have to say it, colombia doesnt have a free market, or a competing market, prices are set depending on how much money it takes to produce in colombia.

i am video game expert. yes, you'll only be able to play the bootlegs if you get the console modified but that would also have to be done anywhere else, not just colombia. if you were to buy originals from colombia they would work on the console with no problem. you just have to make sure the region of the console matches that of the game.

darkangel, you can find a bunch of ps3s and ds' in the san andresito on 38th and 6th. now it won't be as expensive as in retailer stores but still expensive and definitely more expensive that the msrp. but you can always haggle for a lower price.

thanks guys, so it is easier to just bring it to colombia from the US and the games along with it... will check out the shop and this makes it hard for kids in colombia to compete with kids in Japan or the rest of the world for that matter.. ps we work with orphans in bogota and they LOVE VIDEO GAMES!
