VERY SERIOUS, I’M REALLY WORRIED!

There is a virus spreading through this posting forum. Utopia is running around Medellin looking for two gringo millionaires who can’t get laid with a waco taxi driver named Pablo. Oldgringo thinks he’s gone around the bend, but I think he’s sick and got the virus from Pablo. And, it’s spreading, Gator is chanting to the Fucahwee Indian God Kumbaya, urging us all to sing along. (see the flood thread) The author of that thread may have a touch of it too; he thinks six hurricanes will hit Colombia next year.

I’m really worried; do you think we can catch it through our keyboards? I’m not taking any chances, Mi Vida, get the Clorox spray!

united states federal government appropriations 2005 If you want to know what is coming then check out House Resolution, HR 4818, Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2005 (final version already signed into law), the chemicals are on their way real sooooon to an area very near you. Within the next six months your country's beautiful mountain sides are going to be hit with some pretty nasty shit. Its effects will not be immediately felt nor seen but they will surely create much harm to you lands and water. This may be a joking matter for the ones that have nothing else to do but post garbage and tease one another but for the rest of you who truly love your country take note the united states government has authorized a chemical war against your country side that will eventually effect your cities and surrounding communities. If i sound alarmist that too is fine. But the FACT remains that this is currently an ON GOING "FOREIGN OPERATION" APPROVED BY THE CONGRESS AND PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, not a simple boyscouts meeting in your back woods. Within the next two months your president or his "designee" will meet with the under secretary of state for foreign operations to submit the "coordination" and release of funds for the international purchase and use of these chemicals. From there it will be a matter of placing "U.S. ADVISERS" on the ground to direct and advise the implementation of the application of close to TWO MILLION DOLLARS worth of pesticides and herbicides over close to four million acres throughout the Andes, mianly in COLOMBIA. It just seems to me that there are hundreds if not thousands of people within all the "strata" you guys talk about that will be hurt by this and the irony is that your president has approved it. I'm sure if the general population had their say it would not take place.

Patrick says on Dec 25, 2004, 18:46:

BORICUAPR, "i never said that six will hit"

As a matter of fact you did! The paragraph below is copied and pasted from your original posted topic.

“after reading about the floods and seeing the pictures in print and on video as well as the satellite overheads from the geostat weather site on the internet, the area along the caribbean coast of colombia is going to have major errosion and health problems in the coming years. specifically, barranquilla, santa marta, cartagena and the other low lying coastal areas are going to be faced with this problem. it has already been predicted that the year 2005 hurricane season will have at least 6 major storms that will touch upon this area.”

Since only two hurricanes have “touched upon” (hit) Cartagena in the last 500 years the chances of 6 in 2005 is so remote as to be ridicules. So a little ribbing was in order. Your concern for the coastal area of Colombia is admirable; however your arguments are extremely week and disjointed. You are trying to connect unrelated problems to make your point. That does not make for a good debate!

1) Hurricanes have not been a problem for the northern coast of Colombia in the past and are not likely to be in the foreseeable future, as I pointed out to you in my serious reply to your “floods” post. The report, which I have read twice now, makes no such prediction and carries a very strong disclaimer, which was pointed out to you as well.

2) The spraying of herbicides takes place almost entirely in the southern half of the country where 99% of the illegal drug producing plants are grown. It is not a factor for the northern coast and does not contribute to the flooding problem in the areas you mention.

3) While I may be up to my “rear-end” in water sometime in the future it will not be from herbicides or hurricanes. It will most likely be from rising sea levels caused by the melting of both polar ice caps, something that seems to be accelerating. Cartagena is only slightly above sea level. This problem will not just affect Colombia, but the entire world.

The flooding problems on the northern coast of Colombia are mainly caused by the building of unregulated housing by the poor. “Barrios” are created which have no paved roads, sewers, drainage, plumbing or sanitation. They are built on the sides of hills, anywhere that these unfortunate people can build them. They strip the land of the trees and vegetation that would normally stop flooding from occurring. So, when heavy rains come, as happened this year, terrible flooding occurs. This is a serious problem and needs to be addressed by the Government and the citizens of the cities and departments where it is occurring.

The spraying of herbicides is another problem and while I agree with you that it should not be done, until the United States of America stops the “War on Drugs” the spraying will continue. This is a political issue; it will take a groundswell of informed citizens in both countries to bring it to a halt. It will probably take the legalization of drugs to bring this about, something that will not happen under the Bush administration.

So, my young friend, (I can call you that, I’m 62 years old) when you present your case use facts that can be substantiated and are relevant to the point that you want to make. You will then win converts to your cause and not be ridiculed.

I trust you had a Merry Christmas and will have a very Happy New Year.

Don't blame me I voted for Ron Paul!

Perhaps boricuapr meant 6 hurricanes are predicted to hit "this" area he was referring to where he is, in Puerto Rico?

(3) on your list above is another good reason to move to Bogotá, it will take a lot of rising water levels to reach Bogotá.

level rises so fast, I can't help believe that some of that water comes from the toilets already. If it has some of that perticide in the water, maybe it will eat the soles of my shoes. Now that will be good for the shoe industry, even if it's not good for the farmers.

heres a site you may want to view. since i'm disjointed and not corrobative of the facts i presented, i suppose a little show and tell is appropriate to make the case that although there has never been a "direct" hit on the coast the secondary effects that "touch upon" the coast are just as damaging. so for your entertainment and education check out the historical storm tracking at www.wunderground.com/hurricane/hurrarchive/.asp At this site you can trace the pronounced "dip" that the patterns have been taking over the last 60 or 70 years. once this dip falls below 10 degrees lat your coast gets "touched upon". it is a fact that a storm that is 300 miles in diameter (radius), does have effects such as what you call "Heavy Rains". as for being "hit" you really do not know the difference between a "hit" and being "touched upon" when speaking about such storms. If i wanted to say "HIT" i would have used the word "HIT" and not "Touched Upon" clearly there is a difference and I thought you would get it. If you are hit in that way by a storm it means that the "eye or center" sits directly atop of the geographical area. To be "touched upon" is to say affected marginally or as in the outer parts of the storm affects a particular geographic area beneath it. In either case the historical fact remains that the patterns are slowly but consistently dipping more frequently at or below the 10 lat position once they are created. This in turn does affect you. in addition to the other factors such as deforestation and the "barrios" being created with no appropriate planning it all points to one inescapable position. That the events will re-occur every year and no one individual remedy is going to prevent them. I live in puerto rico and we are faced with the prospect of getting "HIT" every year and like with the unregulated development in colombia we too have been the victim of poor planning in that area. so Abuelo:) be at ease with your self because as you well know there are some things in life that are totally bigger then us and that we have no control over.enjoy the tracking site it is indeed very informative. Happy New Year.

Now I know better. It may never happen again but I now have hurricane storm panels and a garage door brace installed as well as reinforced roof trusses and sheathing.

It really bothers me that I can't find something to argue about.

Oh hang on. Diameter and radius aren't the same thing.

its no funny it is very serious It is indeed unfortunate for those people who have lost their lives. They had no warnings and never knew what was coming. In that part of the world there are very few detection systems in place. At least the Atlantic and the Caribbean are covered with under water detectors that can give some notice but not anything suffecient enough to head for the hills. These detectors measure the faults along the ocean floor and check this out, more than 200 earth quakes hit the caribbean fault a MONTH! Just a few weeks ago one was felt and registered 5.3 on the ritcter scale just a few mile south of St Criox Virgin Islands. This is not a joking matter. According to some of the reports, the planets "Axis" was jolted by this quake. The Italian Geophysics Institute made that declaration not me. Things are definately changing around the world and all these things are not "isolated" inccidents but cause and effects that are now more closely observed by many.

hunter i do not understand your question. if your are asking has "man" created an environment that triggers earth quakes the answer is no, at least not that i know. if you are asking can "man" cause an earth quake the answer is possibly. there are regions beneath the oceans that are vulnerable to man made conditions that may cause earth quakes but the circumstances are very unlikely. deep sea minerals exploration is one such possiblity if the use of high explosives is part of that exploration. so please elaborate on the question and then i might be able to address it. if by the way you are implying that the events that i have been posting are the direct causes of earth quakes that is not my position.
